Please remind me who owns the Disco with a Defender A Bar fitted (similar to the one below).
I remember seeing it but can't remember whose it is. I'm asking as I'm thinking of doing it myself. I want to modify one so it looks something like this.

The lights I plan to use would probably be <a href="http://www.cheviot4x4.com/shop/Products/Lighting/Driving%20Lights/Product/Roo%20Lite%20180/>Roo Lites[/url] as they look great and are so muck cheaper than Lightforce.

Lifted Disco has a defender abar on his truck

Here you go... didn't need to modiy anything... there is a bolt hole at the back of the flange that is unused but it doesn't interfere with anything on an otherwise standard 200 series V8 on carbs.

Now why didn,t I think of that . I am going to fit Wipac or Britpart 100 watt lights to my 200TDI. The origional lights are touching the grill now, not fitted by me, and dont tip up far enough to be much use other than blinding rabits at 10 paces from the bumper. I know these are not the worlds best lights but they are cheap. I always used Cibie or Hella for ralying but again they are exspensive.

Yep, got one on my truck, needed to chop the number plate surround back a bit and get busy with a cold chisel behind the bumper but it's an easy job.
It's in my avatar but PM me if you want closer, cleaner pictures.
Good luck with it!

Many thanks every one.
Skibum & Iain C - they look really good. Do you think the green one in my original post is a bit shorter???
Skibum - What bumper is yours fixed to? Is it a standard one with the ends missing?

What part needed the cold chisel?
I'm intending to fit mine to a heavy duty bumper (http://www.firstfouroffroad.co.uk/replacement_bumpers.htm) (half way down the linked page) and weld on a brace bar like the one in the first post.
Iain C - PM sent.

Yes matey... it's a standard bumper with the ends and number plate plastic thingy taken off. (Never saw the point of it myself!)
Just drilled a couple of holes in the right place and Robert's yer mothers brother.
Mind you... don't fancy having to do it n a HD bumper!
Good luck matey...

No it looks about the same size but the bit on the front probably deceives the eye.

Mine is running Wipacs and they look fine. I'm not sure if my bar is from an AC Defender or not, TBH I don't know what I'm looking for! If I was going to be hyper critical and owned a welder I might chop an inch out the bottom of the bar and re-weld the base plates on lower as it can sometimes look a little high from some angles, however it works well for wrapping a recovery strap round and also it's easy to see where the front is when driving.
If I remember there's a short bolt that just passes through the top skin of the bumper, and a longer one that goes right through it all with the nut visible on the underside of the bumper mount. To get one of these through I needed to slightly alter the internal bracing piece of the bumper but only by a few mm.
However be warned that as the A bar is bolted to the bumper and not the chassis it's not very strong. It's fine for mounting lights etc, but if you were going really mad with it you might bend the bumper a bit and push the lights back onto your grill.
Here's another pic, hope this helps. I do quite like the look and it looks well balanced with the valance missing and a steering guard added.

Ere you go...
This bolted through the HD bumper - if I just used the two original bumper mounts(onto the chassis), it all wobbled around so have used the third hole and sleeved this so that I dont crimp up the chassis when tightening it all up. I also reinforced the point on the outside of the chassis (where the larger hole is) using a plate made from 3mm galv plate. All bumper mounts are now M16 stainless bolts.
At the back of the A bar is a further hole - I drilled the bumper and added a second bolt for added security.
Nothing wobbles now... other than me!
NB... for accuracy, any reference to me having done anything also includes Fatbaz... it's terrible when someone gets sooooooo bored over a weekend - it's really more of a public duty to keep him occupied! :D
