For the time it takes to sign, I can't see it doing any harm.

It isn't the duty that's the killer at the moment - it's the barrel price of oil....

The only problem that I can forsee is that if the duty on fuel is reduced, they will have to hike up one of the many taxes that we pay elsewhere. Lets face it, the allowances for using home made bio or SVO has been made very generous - the upshot of this is that SVO is now just as expensive as Diesel. (YES I know it is a bit cheaper at COSTCO)

The motorist will always be a cashcow for whichever government is in power. The "green" issue is one they will be using to beat us into submission. The ludicrous part of this is the hybrid car is hailed as a saviour of the planet despite the fact that a large chunk of American wilderness is precisely that, a wilderness due to the destructive methods used to mine the lead for the batteries.

What is the answer? I honestly don't know but winning the lottery might go someway towards paying my car tax in the year 2020

how do you work that out, i was led to believe seventy odd pence in the pound was tax, fuel is cheap until they slap mega tax on it :?

Total tax on a litre of petrol or diesel is about 63p. Fuel duty is a fixed amount in pence (not percent) so is the same irrespective of the pump price whilst the VAT is a percentage (17.5%) and, therefore, changes with pump price. The actual figures are on the HMR&C web site.

I'm not trying to defend this lousy Government but the price of fuel itself has far outstripped the tax on it.

We do have the highest Deisel prices in europe so it isn't just the raw price that is the issue.

They could always try spending less money. Now theres a novel thought for this government.

Something like 60% of voters think like that, stupid really if they all voted then the government would have to listen to them.
