Morning all.
Been playing with the Disco, 300Tdi, this weekend, cleaned intercooler, removed EGR Valve tweaked pump etc etc.
On the way to work this morning under load i am getting a howl, 8-[ sounds like belt slipping, but on the turbo side of the engine between 2500rpm & 3000rpm, any ideas checked all pipes were secured properly on Saturday when i did the work. prior to this it was very difficult to get the rev's this high.
Any help or ideas apprciated, just bought it and if it breaks SWMBO will divorce me :)

3 main suspects are water pump, belt tensioner and alternator. Water pumps usually squeal all the time and get worse under load. Try squirting some WD40 at the offending articles and when the squeal disappears, you have found your culprit

think it is wrong side of engine, here goes, not sure if you have ever had a window slightly open at home and the wind begins to get strong and you get a sort of howl, well thats what it sounds like
I know im bonkers!
Only had the disco a week and getting annoyed, should have got V8

sound like a pipe has blown off check the big one that goes to the turbo

checked all pipes tonight, gave them bit more of a tweak to ensure it is tight. Spoke to guy up the road and he said i need help . any way only happens around 2500 to 3500 revs under load, almost like a clutch bearing noise when you take up bite on the clutch, but its not that.
Oh dear this is gonna be an odd one
By the way it seems to run ok, but turns heads on motorway when your doing seventy passed someone and it kicks in with this harmonious noise

Cleaned out the intercooler with paraffin over the weekend, whilst it was soaking i noticed a very slight leak of parrafin from th fins once it had been soaking for a while, could this be the cause of the whistle?
-
can you Youtube the noise with a short drive?
as for the rad i would have said no unless the system is completely dry???

would be a suspect if you ask me.. increased boost forces more air out from thetiniest of holes. get someone to rev it while yu feel for drafts under the bonet. could also be something along the transmission, as increased power brngs increased stress on componants.
difficult to say wiithout seeing/hearing it tho

on way home tonight i can drive sensibly but if i push it hard then the noise appears until i back of throttle, reckon it is piping/turbo related, how can/what do i look for to inspect the trubo, ideally while in situ in the car. Gonna try and get some new hoses, not worried about silicone.
your help is very much appreciated.
As for youtube i can just about run to using this forum

If it is engine related you would hear it sat still while reving ...
If it's only heard while moving I'd say transmission ,ie. a dry joint on the props or no oil in one of the gearboxes or diffs:shock:
And I know this is a long shot but a mate had a crisp packet get sucked into his wing and lodge next to the air intake trumpet inside the wing it used to flap so fast under load it sounded like a fox screaming took him ages to find it..

Have checked everything, gonna replace turbo hoses with new. 1st and 2nd it does not happen, after that it howls like made from 2500rpm (approx) if i boot the throttle very hard until i ease of throttle, general driving, not hard it is fine.
anyone near Gosport who can have a listen, will travel to you if necessary.

:D Fixed, did every thing, thenchanged bottom hoses, No noise :D :D :D :D
Checked original bottom hoses several times, they were secure every time, no splits.
Any way thanks for your help and advice everyone.
