Hi all
Just thought I'd let you all know that the Disco bonnet opening while on the move is not an urban myth [-X [-X
The local landie garage took a Disco out the other day for a test drive and the bonnet opened coming off a roundabout at about 30mph and flapped over the windscreen
and no they hadn't forgotten to close it properly...I've been told...
I'm always thought it was plausibly so fitted bonnet pins after seeing it vibrate at speed....
Glad I did

Fitted pins to my V8, was lucky decided to pop up as i was slowing down, saw it raise then shut its self, no damge but very scary.
-
disco bonnett is a trouble waitting to happpen shame it didnt have a spare wheel on it to weigh the thing down abit.
oh lee are bonnet pins which u drill through a pain when working on the engine :-k

I have had problems with mine failing to latch properly before. It seemed to be the cable release sticking and holding the latch open, operating it a few times after dribbling 3-in-1 into one end has freed it up a lot.
Is it hard to fit bonnet pins? I'd always imagined the hard bit would be making sure they're symmetrical and that the hole in the bonnet lines up with the hole you're about to bolt the pin into.

When i have fitted them before i have fixed the pins to the front panel first, then on bonnet underside put some masking tap and mark top of pin with grease etc, then lay bonnet over top and theres you mark, drill thru from underside with 3mm drill the open up from the top with appropriate size drill. Or you can just drop the bonnet on the pins, the dent is where you drill :)

Drop the bonnet on the pins, the best way to go!

I the pins in the slam panel first the put a blob of tipex on the top and closed the bonet , leaves a nice white mark to drill on .
put a small drill through from the inside then a big one from the top...
plus I got the pins off ebay for 99p

On the strengthening rib at the front of the bonnet are some holes - I lined my pins up on the top of the slam panel so they went through the holes and touched the bonnet skin, I marked the position on the slam panel and drilled and fitted the pins. Then I just dropped the bonnet closed and drilled the dents out. I then filed the holes to the square profile of the top of the pins and fitted the clamp bits the bonnet - 1/2 an hour max.
Only thing is, mine are , dare I say it, Britpart! The bit that bolts to the bonnet and the up-right pins are stainless, but the actual locking pins are not and have rusted badly in about 12 months of constant use so I'd buy the best you can afford if your picky about appearance..........

oh no it is not it happend to me in my 200, i was doing well over 70 [-X and it shot up smashed my screen and folded its self round the roof and took me jumping on it to get it in to a shape resembeling a bonnet, it had to be ratchet strapped down for the rest of the journey, LandRoverKeith will tell you he saw it

Hi
I fitted these to mine, bit of a pig to fit as you have to use a couple of hole saws but look good on the disco when done and dont rust !

My pins went rusty too :(
But I just took them off and gave them a lick of smoothrite

Mine are anodised aluminium. So rust isn't going to be a problem.
