Went out last night with my mate and went through a deep ford. anyhow to cut a long story short, his Defender was chucking white smoke out all the way home ( about 10 miles). and is still this morning. Does thsi happen often and is their a quck remedy?

Looking at the video and reading the symptoms sounds like a possibility of having pulled some water into the engine and either blowing the head gasket or bending a conrod, whats the tick-over like, lumpy or ok?
-
Hi Chris,
it ticks over fine and drives normally???
hope he hasnt broke it again..only hust fixed the rear axle! :)

it seems like it is the con rod but how the water got in not too sure?
-
now been told possibly not con rod so we are dropping the sump tonight and checking for anything obvious like water in the intercooler too.
If no good then will get the bits for a con rod change..
so whaty do we need aside from the obvious con rod and sump gasket? and how do you tell which ( if any) con rod has bent slightly?
Cheers

If not the obvious problems of water entering engine, then could water have got into the exhaust system either from leak or down the tail pipe and what you see is the steam as exhaust gets hot ? hope so as it means no damage.

thats what were hoping!! :)

mine done this for about 2 mins after wading deep, it lost all power and was chucking out white smoke, so i floored the throttle and it seemed to clear it, that was a month or so ago and is fine now... lucy me

Water in the fuel system perhaps?

White smoke is often water in fuel system, run off jerry can. Easy to try first!!!!!!!!!
