I have a 1996 n plate 300tdi Disco, which I believe is Northern Ireland spec.
It has a very annoying chime when the key is in the ignition and the drivers door is open. It also makes the same chime when you hit 75 mph and over.
Anyone know of a way to switch of the chime, without disconnecting the "chimer"? and yes I know i shouldn't go over 75 but I do !!

Have a look for the speaker and cut the wire to it, or pull the fuse out for the interior light, as this is the only thing which comes on when the door is open.

Mine does it with the key/door thing, but not over 75!
I've looked for the thing and I cant find it - honest, no trace of the thing. Its one of those sounds that you cant 'pin down' if you know what I mean - its under the drivers foot well side panel or up under the dash, but I cant make out which..........

I get the chime with the door open but over 75... with 2" lift and muds? I think not, my friend!!! Call me chicken if you like!!! [-X
There is a 'speed sensor' on the transfer case according to the good ol' Haynes not sure if this activates this or your speedo

Somebody else here did have a similar problem (with a Japanese-spec Disco?). The theory seemed to be that the speed sensor on the gearbox does feed the speedo but it's more accurate than the gauge on the dashboard, so you're probably doing 70 when it says 75. Checking mine against GPS suggested that an indicated 75 is about 68-70mph. IIRC there was a suspicion that a feed from the speed sensor to the MFU had something to do with it, but nobody managed to get to the bottom of it.
I get the chime when I have the keys in and the door open but not at 75 AFAIK. Then again the lack of private tracks in my part of the world rather limits my ability to check... ;)
