The EU (non constitution) Treaty will bring about the end of the UK SVA test and associated triggering points system at the end of March 2009. It will be replaced with an evil Individual Vehicle Assessment (IVA) test triggered at MoT time. Practically every vehicle that is not completely 100% factory original is at risk of losing its DVLA registration and ability to drive on public roads in Britain, the rest of Europe and further.
An organisation called the Association of Car Enthusiasts is representing the views of modified vehicle owners in government consultations. I urge, each of you that have modified your vehicle to sign up for their free newsletter and for RnR to become a recognised supporter.
No other EU member state has the motoring heritage that the UK has. Modifying vehicles is almost a unique part of British and American culture that is completely lost on other Europeans. They just haven't got a clue why we don't all want to drive identical silver or black Audi A6 saloons. If we don't start complaining to our MP's now this will get pushed into law next April. I hope you kept all your old stock parts to put your motor back to factory spec. :roll: :roll:

Have you got there web addy that you could post.....
This is yet another Brittish tradition under threat from the cronies in the EU..... Why do we have to put up with this...... Just another stealth law that hope to get through un-noticed till some poor unsuspecting off-roader takes his car for an MOT...................................

Don't put money on the "it won't happen" bit. This chicken livered bunch of n'er-do-wells will simply come out with the standard guff of "it's EU legislation, there's nothing we can do about it" and their mindless supporters will say "oh well, that's alright then. Not your fault is it?".
As for the protests; when was the last time this government took any notice of what the voters want or say? Are they listening to the calls for lower fuel duty?No. Did they listen to the protest over the 10p tax band? No. Did they listen to the protests over the Iraq war? No. The only thing they say yes to is higher salaries, pensions and pay-offs for themselves.
Cynical I may be .. realistic I certainly am :D

I've long believed that this government uses the EU as an excuse for pushing through unpopular policies. The fact that other member states (eg France) are able to adopt only those bits that suit them with little in the way of sanctions suggests that we could do the same. Unfortunately we use the EU as a dumping ground for political disasters who have pleased their leaders rather than sending our best negotiators. Is it any wonder we get shafted...
Reading the stuff about the planned IVA suggests that it will only apply to seriously modified vehicles (such as bobtails or hybrids) that would previously have had to go through an SVA. Am I being hopelessly optimistic or should I start hunting for a new front outer wing to replace the one with a snorkel hole in and the plastic bits from my front bumper? :lol:

According to the European Parliament's own web site they don't create legislation just directives. It is then up to the member states own government to enact these directives or ~ in the case of everywhere but the UK ~ not as they see fit. The best example of selectivity is, indeed, the French who actually started all this off by coercing the Germans into jointly creating this pan-European mess. Lets not forget either that de Gaulle (who spent all of WW2 hiding in the UK while we expended blood and lives to free his country) stopped the UK from joining on several occasions. Ironically, maybe if he was still alive we wouldn't be in this mess 'cos we still wouldn't be members :-k
Oh, and KingWolf: fluffy dice in a Land Rover? What is the world coming to? :lol: :lol:
Jeez, I hate the EU =;

That's because Brussels smells of sprouts and by letting off you're doing the only thing that can make it smell worse.

Well actually you can't even fart of belch in our office at the minute.... :shock: We've all got to go on a dignity training course next month to be taught how to behave in an appropriate manner while working in an open plan office...!!!!
