hi just so you know, i work at a garage as a tech/fitter and we have had about 15-20 cars in the last month come in with the cats cut off with the jaws of life ( like the firemen) its done especially on 4x4's and vans as they have high ground clearance, although im based in northamptonshire im sure its not just this area thats affected so just thought id post up to let people know to keep a close eye on where you park your car or 4x4 as it takes mere seconds to do it and its being donbe in some of the most public places aswell ( sainsburys car park for one) , cheers marcus

I think it's latest money making scheme. I know my local scrap metal dealer pays £70 for them.
-
yeah the local place near us payes in the region or 55-75 quid dependant on what cat it is, some places near bham can pay up to 90 quid lol but for a cat fitted usually costs anywhere from 200 quid upwards, even more if its an origainal exhaust as its all one piece, im glad i dont have a cat in my disco but obviously some people do so its just worth a mention to keep an eye out etc
-
also people round here are drilling into peoples fuel tanks and draining their fuel
i would love to see them take my fuel and stick in there nice chaved up corsa and see it die from cooking oil posening

i once saw 2 gypsies strip a roof of tin and lead in a stupidly short space of time! although the building was being closed, there were still people living in it at the time!! police were very interested!scrap metal just keeps going up in price!

Last time copper prices went up the gypos went into B&Q and bought the tube and weighed it in! The scrap price was higher than B&Q's!

sounds like a plan! im short of cash!lol :-#

Hey, at least they're being honest when they buy it from B&Q!
I've mentioned this before, but the ones that really annoy me are when some little <edit> steals irreplaceable parts from a preservation group. It's not just a question of money, it's the fact that yet another piece of our heritage has been destroyed by some knuckle-dragging moron who's just after their next grubby handful of notes.
The best suggestion I've heard is to regulate the scrap industry more heavily. If you turn up with several cats you should be regarded as a commercial operator and asked for proof of ID. Legitimate garages will have no trouble with their local scrappy, meanwhile the theiving gits will rapidly find that they can't get rid of their stolen goods.

I have a complete exhaust system from my rover inc cat I took off to mend it as it seemed easier to buy a new cat than to faf with the old rusted bolts.
anyideas where one finds a local scrap metal place. is a car scrap yard such a place? I have a collection building up now and I would like me to pocket the dosh and not some thieving monkey!

I know plenty of taxi garages that would buy cats off you if they did that!
