Can such a thing be bought for a Defen'er? I don't want a plough when i'm offroad but a Landy baht a tow bar is a bit daft......
-
I have made one for the disco, just a very heavy duty box section welded central on the rear and a smaller box section that slots inside with the attachment welded on the end, when it stop raining i will post some piccys.

Yeh, lots of people do them including Southdown. Not cheap but excellent pieces of kit.

Mine came from www.safari-equip.co.uk
Top quality bit of kit, and not badly priced! Give them a ring though, as prices aren't on the website.
As a side note, this is who makes kit for Scorpion (but they charge double the price!!!)
Also, not that far from you ;)

I'm sure technically you are not meant to make your own tow bar. Don't they all have to be EU approved ones these days? However, I'm having one made by the local fabrication shop. Based on the Southdown tank guard/tow hitch principal, but just large rectangular box section across between the chassis rails, then a central channel running up to the rear cross member with cross pins (tractor link pins) to support the hitch assembly.

Dont know if your truck has lift but a cheaper option (what I use with my 2" lift) is a standard Dixon Bate assembly then to drop the tow bar down to the right height I bolted on a drop plate onto the Dixon Bate sliding plate (if you get what i mean...), then when your off-roading you can remove or slide it up out of the way, doesnt get it out of the mud completely but i've never had any problems :)

If you did decide to go the Dixon Bate route, I'll have one available. I just need to take some dimensions off it first. PM me if interested.
