Title: clicks from front wheel
Post by: petergalileo on June 20, 2008, 15:55:23
At full left and right lock I get a clicking sound coming from the front wheel.  Sounds a bit like a CV joint on its way out but cant feel any play.  Also, if I hold the wheel at 12 o clock and at 6 o clock theres quite a bit of play on both front wheels, but if I hold it at 3 and 9 o clock theres none ??

Hopefully one of you knowledgeable lot will know what it is instantly !

If its the CV joint is it an involved expensive job or reasonably easy ?

Thanks
Peter

The clicking is most likely cv joint quite a common thing, never done one but looks fairly easyish

The play is more likely wheel bearings.

changing a cv joint is straight forward. remove wheel, caliper, hub and disc. drain the swivel housing of oil and unbolt/remove stub axle. half shaft should then slide out.

before you do this though have someone watch the swivel housing as you rock it at 12 and 6 position as it could possibly be a worn swivel bearing.
