Hi guys I was wondering if you could give me some advice about jimny's as i'm considering trading in my Terrano for one (wife don't know yet :roll:)My Terrano is fantasic on the road & handles like a hot hatch :Poff road it has been fantasic & sptb has shown me what these motor can do. My gearbox has given up & is going to cost about 1K to get it fixed (at a garage) so i'm wondering where to spend my money :?fixing my Terrano or trading it in for a 52-54 plate Jimny :-k :-k :-k
So how do you lot rate them on & off road, are the cheep & easy to mod & do they break very often ?????

i dont own a jimny but my m8 got a 51 plate 1 and he thinks tey are very good on/off road, he onnly every had to change a wheel bearing so far thats wt all i know off, he said they got a live front axle and the suspension are coil all around,,
also the side plastic on the door pop off now an again, but he screwd them on, or just put a little glue on them

They can be turned into excellent off road vehicles, but everything is a compromise. If you need it as an every day car as well stick to putting some AT's on and it'll cope with most Green lanes and make an OK round town/commuter. On longer runs they sufer a bit like all smaller cars, as in not so comfy or happy long distance cruising. Woul I swap mine - only when I can afford an Ibex.

good all round i think. my cousin had one with sum mud tyres and it were ok. if you want to go all out jimny off roader check out rhino ray (feature in total off road a couple of months ago), but like whats already been said, stick some decent tyres on it and you wont go wrong. :afro:

I've had my Jimny for about 6 months now and I've got no complaints although I do agree that you compromise the ride on long journeys once its modded. So far though I'd definately recommend getting one.

probly silly question, but whats a live axle? ive felt mine for a pulse but it seems to be dead?hmm

A "live" front axle is a real axle, reaching from one side to the next - when one wheel moves it has an effect on the opposite wheel, as opposed to Independant Front Suspension where there is no direct connection between the wheels, one can go up and down separately to the other.

gotcha, ive got independent fron t suss and its deffinitely not as good in the ruts.
