Title: Converting 7 to 5 seats.
Post by: C C on July 10, 2008, 02:02:07
I'm looking to change my 5 seat 99td5 with a newer model.

I can't locate anything any thing other than 7 seater models in my price range. I don't need seven seats but find the stowage bins in my current vehicle very handy.

So is it viable to remove the back seas and replace them with storage bins.

Thanks

You can do it, but you'll need a fair amount of interior trim - Equicar or CWS breakers would be a place to start looking.

You definitely can't convert a 5 seater to 7 seats - as the 7 seater D2 was only type-approved with SLS.

I would say it is if you don't need them. I'm looking at getting a D2 but if it's a 7 seater then no 6&7 seats will be coming out straight away & put them up in the loft as i'll need the room for my sound system   & will then be on the hunt for the storage bins as from what i've seen they'll go in no probs.

I have done this. :P

It is only a matter of undoing 4 bolts on each seat, and then pulling. Be careful, the spring is under alot of tension.  :D

I have put it through an MOT since, and no problems.

As to filling in the gap, one side has been replaced with an LPG tank (vertical torroidal) and I am going to fit batteries and inverter on the other side.
