Just wondered what price steel (as in steel car wheels) was fetching at the moment?
Anyone know?
-
I would hazard a guess at around £100 per tonne. We took 1.25 tonnes of cast iron in a few weeks ago and came out with £240!
I'd heard that copper had topped £4000 per tonne recently
-
Last week by me steel was fetching £180 per tonne
-
I just 'weighed in' 4x steel wheels, 7x15.
Perhaps cause of constantly hearing about short supply and excessive demand I expected to get a little more than £5 for them, they weighed in @ 46kg.
-
That'd be just over £100/tonne.. which is about right.
-
hi in south wales steel is fetching around £135 - £140 a ton
its great on my rounds doing my work i collect scrap, if i see something knock and normally there fine with you taking it,
it pays for everything i need to service / mod and run my disco, i call it free motoring

Our hot water tank blew last week, I wasnt there but told the misses to make sure the plumber diddnt helpfully take it away! he looked disappointed apparently, I also have a spare one out the flat we are converting so they are destined for the piggy bank!

When we were there waiting to get in with our cast iron, they were moving hot water tanks around. Stacked about 10 on the front of a fork lift. And they were contantly back and forth with loads
-
its that the copper type, if so average there about £35- £40 depending on the weight, i got a copper water tank from an old peoples home, it was 4mm thick and it was around 4ft and stood about 6ft tall, i cant belive they give it to me.it was 170 kilos, and £2.70 a kilo i was laughing, that was the insurance and tax paid for a year, haha
its getting hard as everyones doing it.
-
when i last took my scrap down, i done 2 runs and on the 3rd i only had about £40 worth on the van and coz i had been twice he already had my unloaded wieght, so he told me to stay off the scales and he would work it out from the previous weight,
i forgot to mention i had about half a tonne for a job i was on the way to, so i got paid for that aswell so a real good day was had, haha
-

Yes, well that's the downside of the rocketing prices :| If there's money to be made from something, there will be some lowlife stealing it.

Thats the problem there are plenty of lowlifes stealing it at the moment.

As a gas fitter I used to be allowed to book out a box of copper fittings from our stores when I needed some for a job, now I have to account for every single fitting and every bit of copper tubing that I use on a job

Whats stainless steel worth i have about 2 1/2 tons of 316 in a machine.
-
aslong as its stainless not shiney steel, if the magnet dont stick its stainless, i got 95p a kilo
-
henry mate thats around £100,000 pounds, lucky the gypsies didnt no what you had, haha
-
its good that we canpossible make money from scrap. but unfortunatly there has been stories of people going into houses being done up and being stripped of the wire and pipes, drain covers go missing even whole bus stops!! and the scrap man taking them! but the worst (well in my opinion anway, dont know bout anyone else) is when they are nickin stuff like comerative plates from grave yards etc. i just think thats a different kind of low..
just my opinion :)
-
They stole the war memorial from by us a few years back. Very very low.
-
I'm fed up with the scrap collectors, they are a pain in the backside.
They will steal anything, we have had tractors straded with batteries stolen, to churches and houses stripped for lead and copper.
-
my brother works on site, and a couple of months ago some low lifes broke in and chopped sections of pipe out that had been fitted and stripped and stole 30k of copper wire in 1 weekend [-X
-
One of the thieving gits died just by us last year.
He was stealing from a building site and grabbed a live cable. Frazzle frazzle, shock, dead.
-
i was told a few days ago cars where 140 now 70 quid
-
We were checking the prices on-line for mag-alloy, the scrap we have at work was then weighed......£61,000. We also have a 1.5tonne section of aircraft that holds the wings made of titanium!! Oh I wish it would fit in the disco!!!
-
Scrap down here is fetching about £140 a ton
Cheers Gav

-

-
well we have had 3 lots of main phone line stolen in the last 4 weeks round here.
we were without phones in the area (2000 homes) for 3 weeks last month.
-
A couple of months ago my mate had about 2 metres of 22mm copper pipe stolen.
Not a big deal but it was the gas feed to the boiler and it created a huge gas leak - and he has to pay for the gas because it was after the meter.
-
why do prats do that, if they knocked his door and said give me £2 or im gona nick your pipe youd most prob just give them £2 to p++s of, or just smack them in the face
