Title: fitting small speakers from a home suround sound into a car
Post by: flash42 on July 15, 2008, 14:28:07
being a cheap student(broke is more the word), im trying to mod my landy on as cheaper budget as possible.
i have a home suround sound system including 5 speakers plus a sub. is it possible to fit this into the defender. i know it aint the best way but im looking for a better sounds system.
im not worried about the sub, mainly just using the speakers dotted around the defender, but getting the sub in there would be a bonus :)
can anyone help.

cheers

Speakers wont be ideal but should be ok, drive 4 of them straight off a suitable headunit and it should be fine.

The sub could be a different matter entirely though depending on its type.  If it is active (plus into the mains) then forget it as you wont be able to power it.  If it is passive then you could use it with an amp but would ideally need a head unit cabable of delivering a line level output via RCA to it.

Overall - try the speakers, forget the sub!

ideal, the headunit i have has 4x45 watt output ports, im guessing i can plug the speakers directly into this.

or you could buy an inverter and power the sub (and speakers if the speakers connect to the sub) then connect the phono leads to the back of the headunit.

The invertor wouldnt really be ideal for this but it could work as a solution.  The head unit should be fine if it is as powerful as described,.....

Typical house hold speakers are 8 onm resisatance which is double that of car speakers. Both my brother and sister dropped some hi fi speakers in their car boots before they got round to proper speakers. the result though was that even with aftermarket head units they were never what you could call load.
