i see they are giving 4x4,s another slagging as they are unfriendly to pedestrians when they get hit,
Pedestrians! you stay off my road and i,ll stay off your pavement
-
When you hit a pedestrian with a car they tend to go over the bonnet ,make a dent and crack the windscreen .
With a Landie etc they go underneath - no damage
-
yes saw that :x what happened to the green cross code :?:

As always, the problem is the people driving 'em. Not the type of car they drive. Dozy pedestrians walking out in front of moving traffic doesnt help either. As for the lady who was knockd down in her teen's I think... The problem there was not the car, or her, but the toerag who jumped the lights doing 65 was it? No mention of if they caught them.....
I liked the bit with the stop urban 4x4 campaigners, and the woman they stopped and stuffed a mike (or two) in her face and asked her if she felt guilty driving such a big car. She asked "what would you like me to drive?" and they cut away pronto.
As to the ESP vs Non ESP "test"... Anyone else notice he pulled the handbrake on when doing the "comparison ESP switched off" test...????
He still took a "cone" out with ESP on the first time anyway. And if that was the best of the takes......
And of course a big 4x4 is more likely (25% was it?) to have an accident than smaller cars. Trouble is, car's dont have accidents, people do. And we all know the sort of people who move from a GTi or whatever to a big 4x4, but drive the same as they did before.... I rest my case m'lud.....
Educate and train the drivers (and pedestrians) more... Enforce the law in sensible places, like outside schools etc, and maybe, just maybe, things will improve, a little.....?

Perleeeassee!
I was hit by a car doing 55mph and lost my job etc. etc. etc...
She was either where she shouldn't have been or it was speed related.
Come to think of it everything I saw on the program against us was down to speed or lack of law enforcement.
Idiots will still kill pedestrains no matter what they drive.
On the plus side. Some of our messages about misinformation seem to be getting across.

Well said Dave
Course
being gently scooped up,
thrown in the air,
landing on a crumple zone ...
that crumples to reveal a very hard engine block and windscreen
is so much better than just being thrown clear innit ?
And of course the front of a bus, scammell or transit is such a friendly place to be !
Yeah right !

 Same again people opening there mouths without really thinking about it properly. If you get hit by anything doin over 35mph your chances of survieval are less than been hit at 30mph. Its down to drivers and police enforcement. So STOP PICKIN ON 4X4 DRIVERS ONLY.

Anyone see 5th gear end of last year when they ran down a dummy with a Rangie after running it down with a Eurobox? The car throwns the dummy up onto the bonnet, having snapped the leg off at the knee, catapulting the head into the base of the widscreen before throwning the whole body up into the air to then land backl on the bonnet, head first and finaly get thrown in to the road, whereas the Rangie just knocked the dummy on it's a**e. It's utter c***p that 4x4s do more harm to pedestrians and I don't think they have any statistics to prove their arguament, but then when did a little think like the facts get in the way of a nice bit of prejudice?
-
Whatever happened to Trevor MacDonald ?
There was a time when he was a proper newsreader... delivering the facts and every once in a while brightening up the bulletin with the occasional 'and finally'
Now he seems to do nothing more than bring the tabloid mentality to the screen. I flatly refuse to watch ITV news now... I can't abide the way that everything in the world has to be sensationalised....
"Jade Goody says that her new baby will be named Simon in honour of her 3rd cousin's hamster.... and in other news, 500 people were killed today when something exploded"

"Jade Goody says that her new baby will be named Simon in honour of her 3rd cousin's hamster.... and in other news, 500 people were killed today when something exploded"
Now doesn't that just sum it all up perfectly? Well said. I really think people have their priorities all wrong and the media (well parts of it) thrive on unimportant 'so called' news. I can't remember that last time I bought a newspaper. I do remember buying a Sunday Times and find just as much drivel in that as some of the tabloids..... whatever next?!
I guess they have to sell papers to make a living. But the biggest worry is that there must be huge public demand for such rubbish. Otherwise there wouldn't be a market for these publications and TV shows.
I think it is the same mentality that drives the do-gooders who bandwagon any minor cause to fill their otherwise empty lives. For goodness sake people.... get a life and stop wasting time reading/watching, and acting on, such insignificant drivel. If you want to save the planet, stop getting trees felled by buying the Sun/Star/Sport......
It will, in turn, help reduce the spread of misinformation and we will all live in a happier world as a result!
<deep breath... steps off box!>

I gotta have my say in this, I drive a 44ton Artic for a living, and do the best part of 2000 miles a week, and I can say with quite a bit of certainty that its not 4x4 owners who cause accidents, its idiots. Every type of car on the road is driven badly by someone, 4x4`s are no exception, the problem with big 4x4`s is that if you drive them like you would a mondeo, or a polo then you will have problems, they are not designed to be driven like that and if you try to you will get into problems. Its not a problem with the car itself, its a problem with the driver, whoever said it earlier in the thread has it dead on, there should be more education for drivers, and heres a novel idea, lets get rid of some of these annoying spped camera`s, the ones that measure average speed are much more effective speeding deterrants, and get some more coppers in patrol cars. the problem with speed camera`s is they only take photo`s of people who are speeding, speed on its own is not the problem, driving like a moron is.
rant over.....
till next time

When I was at Lotus they had a guy come in and teach advanced driving techniques. It was all part of local PR because there were a number of RTA's on the road from Lotus to the local town (!). It was a great talk. The very first thing he said was 'it is not speed that is dangerous, it is the misuse of it'.
We then all had a thrash (sorry, a controlled high speed drive!) in some Elans around the test track :D
