Title: Gearbox niggles on D1
Post by: R2D2 on July 18, 2008, 18:53:20
Hi peepes,

Disco1 187,000 miles and the box just feels vague, slippling into reverse instead of first  [-X  [-X  people behind look quite  then can't always find second, if one does it's usually second into fifth, which slows things ups a bit, or sometimes it's first... second.... third...... SECOND  which produce a nice white smokescreen...!!

Now it appears that I've been spoilt with both RRC;s  being auto   but even those have similar mileage on.

Is there anything that can be done or is it gearbox change time   :->    Any suggestions (nice ones please ) greatly welcomed.

I believe there is a nylon washer or something along those lines that's at the base of the gear stick.  As this wears, gear selection becomes sloppier and vague.  Not a difficult job I am lead to believe.

if its not the nylon washer it might be the metal selector plate or d. tent spring i had your symptons for a wile then couldnt get reverse gear atall found out it was the d. tent spring when this gave way it ment i was putting more preasure on the selector plate till one of the lugs broke off have both checked to be on the safe side there not a big job can be done frome inside the car
