Title: V8 air filter advice please
Post by: JumboBeef on July 22, 2008, 13:18:26
Hello,

My 1991 110 CSW V8 has the standard air filter fitted, together with a snorkel.

We don't really need the snorkel and I was wondering if there was any benefit for removing the big drum air filter and replacing it with two K&N filters (I used to have a SII V8 with this set up).

Would there be any difference in power/noise if I did this?  Is it worth the effort?

Thanks.

Difference in noise but no noticeable difference in power would be present from experience.  I would stick with the snorkle for practicality and looks (not a chav though!).

Thanks.

Would it be much louder?

power wise you would, i think, have to retune the carbs to suit the larger volume of air, as for noise i ran mine with no filter at all for ages, an when i got a proper filter i dont reckon it changed much.

on another note id be interested in buying your snorkel, if you do come to change, cheers

I have 2 K&N cone filters on my RRC (3.5, twin SU's) Trialer, Yeah they make a bit more noisebut thats about it. As said above get the carbs set after ye fit the filters......
