Title: Ebay woes !!
Post by: marjan on July 23, 2008, 19:21:15
I recently bought a second hand sat nav from Ebay which arrived today. The ****** thing doesn't even turn on even though the seller said it was "as new in box". He says it was fine when he sent it out, so where do I stand for a refund. I paid using a credit card via Paypal so surely I should have some comeback ? :-.

Yes - start a dispute on paypal saying item was not as described.

Its very simple to do and 90% of the time they find in favour of the buyer.  They will end up saying for you to send it back via recorded delivery or something.

Start the dispute, but stick with it and constantly remind them to investigate!

I bought a PDA that was listed as "new in box" when it arrived it was a brown cardboard box with no charger, manuals etc just the PDA and on top of that when I got it charged and turned on the language was set in French!! Well peed off, started the dispute after unsatisfactory responses from the seller. Paypal never sorted it out, after two months I got back to them to ask what was happening to be told there was no dispute!! I persuaded them that there was, so they were looking into it, and a month later nothing, so I chased again to be told I was too late to lodge a dispute and that it was tough!!

I eventually sold the PDA through Ebay for more than I paid thankfully, having listed it genuinely! Made me giggle that the buyer was a chinese person living in Aberdeen that wanted a french language PDA!!

Im not being funny. But try charging it overnight first. My tomtom 1 xl doesnt hold a charge for much longer then a couple of weeks in the case. I charge it overnight, and its fine. Youll need a plug in the wall charger too. The usb ones are only to power it whilst you connect it to your pc.

Hope it can be sorted quickly 1 way or the other.
I'm going through a similar thing aswell.

Seller has agreed to a full refund but I will have to pay for the return postage so I will be about £4.50 out of pocket  :x :x :x :x :x

Don't accept it: knowingly or not, he sold an item not fit for purpose. If my memory of the trading laws is correct, he is liable for all expenses.
