Title: Is it legal...
Post by: johnte on July 24, 2008, 20:51:47
Is it legal to drive without doors, I've just bought a Wrangler and wondered if I could take the doors off along with the roof, or am I likely to get pulled over for this??

Dont know about a wrangler but it is legal on a lightweight landie as they are meant to just lift off

I think it falls under construction and use regs.

Ditto my Series 1. Even been MOT'd twice with no doors and passed both times.

Won't you be removing the mirrors aswell?  I can't see that been legal.

If the mirrors are fitted to the doors then they must be legal to remove

Rear view mirrors have to fitted after a certain registration date. I suspect the Wrangler is a relatively modern one? In which case it is likely to need external mirrors.

When it comes to the doors, if they were originally designed to be 'quick release', then you can remove them. If you have to undo bolts, you are not allowed IIRC.

we had an old bedford romany van that had leather straps to hold the sliding doors open so it must be ok :D

Dunno about doors, but a mate has just replaced the 2.5 turbo with a 200Tdi, and so that he can keep an eye on things he's running with no bonnet!!

Police were confused and let him on his way
