I just got a defender 90 to replace my old one because I was missing it and i want to put 265/75/16 kumho kl71's on it (I have the tyres already from another vehicle) I'm thinking my standard wheels may be to narrow for the tyres. Is there an alternative wheel from another lr that would suffice or will I have to buy new rims ?

a 7 inch rim is fine for 265's. Modulars are a good and cheap option at about £35 each if you need to buy some new rims....

Definitely 7inch rims required, check yours aren't 6.5's.
Another cheap option are steel Discovery wheels. I had one knocking around already, bought another off eBay for £20 complete with a brand new Pirelli Scorpion and two others came from two separate friends for nothing. So that's four steel wheels for £20 and I have a brand new tyre to sell.

I got lucky and got a set of 7x16 modulars for £50 so the tyres are on now looks a lot better than it did with the 205 16's on it

The 265's fill out the arches nicely, don't they? And £50 for a set of wheels.... bargain!
The 90's looking good. I really like the colour BTW

I'm running my trialler with 265's on RRC alloys, I think they are 7". I don't think the Rangey wheels fit 90's though.... If they do then the rims are cheap and easy to pick up. As said above Modulars are cheap, they have a bigger offset than a standard rim and fill the arches nicely.........
