How do I kill the stupid 'key-in-and-drivers-door-open' alarm which goes ping ping ping ping ping ping ping. It drives me nuts! (1996 Disco).
I don't want to kill the alarm totally as the lights-on warning is quiet handy.
Any ideas please?

if yours does that there is something wrong with mine! i do not have these problems!
-
mine was turned off but i reconnected it, buy i wish i hadn't! the way the last owner did it was to take the drivers door light switch out. i wouldn't recommend doing it that way.
there are some wires and a micro switch on the ignition but i don't know which does what.
i'l have a look later.

IIRC, the "ping-machine" is under the steering column behind the access panel.

...thanks, but would disabling that also disable the lights-on alarm?

I don't know if you can just disable one of the functions, I think it may be all or none.
-
OK, thanks. I just hate that ping ping ping.....I assume it is an American thing..........?
-
i think you can take the buzzer out, and join the wires in to keep the alarm

I cant even find the little b'sart on mine  - I can hear it, just cant find it - and believe me, I've looked. For hours.
-
Same here. I've had my head in the dash today trying to trace the little burger.
Anyone know where it is?
-
easy dont leave the keys in    :clap:its more anoying than a teenager with attitude
-
i will have a search cuz my mums disco does it
-
I've cracked it!
(I think)
If you take the plastic shroud off the steering column (three screws and clipped together) then you'll find a four pin connector behind the lock barrel. Two of these wires feed the bulb illuminating the key slot, the other two are connected to a switch which activates the beep. The white wire was snipped as can be seen, and I have no beeping. The car does still start, but I can't offer any guarantees regarding this trick. It worked for me, I'll keep a scotchlock handy just in case it turns out that switch did something else as well as setting the beeper off.

Well, mine drives me nuts aswell, and i've only had the truck a month or so...
Thanks for finding the switch wire, i know what i'll be doing this aft!!!
-
Thanks Matt....I'm going to try that this afternoon hopefully.
-
Well, i took the shield off my steering column, and found the two wires, and decided to cut the black one, which is basically the earth...... however, the lock end of it becomes live when you have the key in, so ideally the end that gets cut should be capped off....... stopped the damn buzzer though!!!
-
I did the job today, only took 10 minutes......but what a difference! I can leave the key in AND open the door.
-
Yep, same here - mine got the snip yesterday!
