Im looking at making an exped trailer out of a sankey/GKN. As I dont want to pay 11 grand for a Trek Overland one!!!
Would appreciate some pics of ones youve made!!!

Do you have the sanky already, as i have a good starting point,

HERE is mine, will be at the Peterbrough show with it.

The guy working opposite my workshop is building a trailer from the rear body of a 130 utility (electricity board, I think). He has built a substantial box section chassis and it bolting it on top. I think it would make an excellent expo trailer with a roof tent on it.
-
Congrats on the build...
Well mine is in progress...
Had some spacer's cnc'd up to increase the track.
Replaced the hub studs for Land Rover Wolf items, so you can use Land Rover wheel nuts....
Got an ARB roof tent for it....
I ditched the Sankey body as I want it to look 'proper'....
A botched one fetched £2k on eBay recently
Which will make mine be worth £5k+ I'll sell it a lot cheaper than that though
see my website link http://www.gotmud.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2338
Will be willing swap ideas/comments..PM me !
I've got a few good reference links also !

Ah, a tool trailer. Weve got hundreds of them at work!!! I dont have a trailer yet, looking at getting one soon though.
GREENI, great link, I wanted to do exactly what you are doing, I wanted it to look proper too. I was going to add a taller bit onto the original sankey body, but I didnt realise it was a proper chassis underneath, I will probably do what you have done, I want mine to look like the globemaster by trek overland. I love the kitchen layout etc.

 Glad ya like it.....
I hope the links are of use to you ;)

Do you know hwere you can get the door locks like the ones on the trek overland one, they look like mini shipping container ones.
-
See what ya mean, more research required  ;)
-
Found them HERE (http://www.bloxwichdoorgear.co.uk/acatalog/Locking_Mechanisms.html) they are the 22mm jobbers, all you need is some 22mm tube to make them fit the size you want!! All I need is a roof tent, fridge, cooker, water tank, trailer, steel, welder, and some time!!!!!
-
Will be getting a sankey trailer after Pboro, then it's time to strip off the body and electrics. Need to find a welder to help build my load bed design, electrics should be pretty simple. (need to be as I'm installing them!)
But I need to source some heavy duty shelf runners and a roof tent of sorts, will fit matching tyres and rims. (this might start cost a few pennies!)
-
@Diggerdog...they seem a bit over-engineered for my liking !!
@Littlepow, I reckon that the expense will be easily clawed back, when it's time to sell !
I've already got someone waiting to by mine....I've not finished it yet...in fact i've barely started :cheesy:
-
GREENI, thats what I like, over engineering!! I think they look like they could travel the world, Trek Overland fit them to theirs, so they must be good!!!!
I relaise that the cost woulld easily be re-couped when its sold, but I'd never want to sell mine. It would save so much money on hotels when travelling. Build it right first time and it will last a lifetime.
Does anyone out there have a Globe master trailer???
-
Put my sliders on mine !!
-
Here's a good 'un...
-
Where ya getting your steel from??
Is that a sankey?
