Following the other thread, I've found I can get the Disco done for £400 inc vat professionally (steam clean, waxoyl underside & box sections, etc).
The drawback is I don't really have four hundred quid burning a hole in my pocket begging to be spent. So is it worth shelling out and sacrificing other things for the sake of rustproofing? Will I be thankful in a few years when I don't have a disintegrating chassis? Or should I just get that awning instead? :)
Having heard reports from people who have done it, I can safely say I don't have the time, perseverance or facilities to do the damn thing myself!

Try the job yourself.... it is really easy if a little messy :)

There are a couple of reasons not to.
Firstly, I'm not convinced I can do a great job of it. Can I really get inside all the nooks and crannies, and completely cover the insides of the box sections? Or will I end up with a lot of waxoyl on me, and not so much in the truck, and miss bits out by mistake?
More practically though, I have a very narrow driveway which is only just wider than the Disco, so it's just not really practical to do a messy job like that here.
I guess I don't mind paying somebody to do it; it's more a case of, is it worth having it done, as opposed to spending the money elsewhere.

Just a thought, if you are concerned that you might miss a few nooks and crannies on your own vehicle - don't forget you will be taking your time to do the preparation as it is your time, not anyone elses. How can you be sure that someone who has been given the "chore" of cleaning your vehicle and then waxoiling it (as well as several other vehicles - again, don't forget that to the bloke you are paying £400 to - time is money) will do a better or worse job?
Hire a steam cleaner and get your car on ramps and give it a good clean and then do the job yourself. At least if you have missed some it is your fault and no one elses.
It would be throwing good money after bad trying to sue a company that has rustproofed your pride and joy only to find they have missed a bit

Given a vehicle with a very good chassis, i would get it done, i currently have 2 discos, one 92, and one 98, can you believe the 98 one has more rust in the chassis than the older one, to the point where i fitted a new HD front bumper, and actually squashed the front of the main rail with the new bigger bolts..... i had to weld it up.... and that didn;t please me, as i only bought anewer truck to try and get away from tinworm..... i'm even toying with stripping donw the old truck, to steal the chassis and have it galvanised.... maybe!! are 300 and 200 disco chassis basically the same..???

I have literally just come in from waxoyling my Td5, I had the luxury of a 4 poster ramp. I took my ramps down to the local BP, paid for 10 jet wash tickets and got quite a few 'funny' looks, whilst lying on the floor in water proofs for 30 with my car up on ramps!!!
I bought a Waxoyl High Pressure Gun, well worth the money. I also bought an Extension probe....not worth a penny. I ended up bodging the hose up and screwing the normal end back on!! It took me about 4 hours to work round the car, and I can safely say I am overwhelmed with the results, all in cost me around £50 and I reckon I took more effort than any 'company' would!!!
