After a great weekend at billing, and amongst all the other bits that failed, or i broke (Or SWMBO) i have a problem that i need help with please :?
the day after i got back, after cleaning, including a jet wash of the engine bay, i went for a short drive to find any more issues than i already had, and after a short while, my Auto Transmission oil temperature light came on. after about 200 yards it went of so i thought ho hum not to worry.
Disco then sat on drive for a day, whilst i replaced power steering box, and sorted a few other issues.
This morning, i come out to go to work, turn on the disco and the "Auto Transmission oil temperature light" came on and is staying illuminated.
so to cut a long story short (a bit late i know).... is this likeley to just be a sensor fault, dodgy connection etc. or worse :'(
if it is a sensor, where am i likely to find it, its an M reg 300 TDI Disco.
thanks in advance for any help.

Sensor is in one of the oil cooler pipes at the rear of the front cross member where the rubber and metal of the pipe meets behind the rad.

i had noticed that and was hopeing it was the case. Time to get checking connections, and get the WD40 out. Not the best place to be located when SWMBO has been driving off road ;) (could not have been my driving of course :afro: )
cheers for now

Check the metal part of the pipes where they go through the metal bracket underneath the engine as one of mine rubbed through on the bracket.

Does the light come on when you crank the engine as a bulb test?
-
checked the connection to the sensor today, and it was well and truly packed with Billing mud, the cover for it looked nice from outside, but a different story when i slipped it off.
Removed the sensor and gave it and the connecting leads a good clean. Reconnected and the light no longer comes on on my dashboard. Now to see how it goes over the next few days.
Thanks for all help.

Sorry to jump in hear.
But I need to check if my auto box temp sensor is working, because when i have towed a fully loaded trailer up hills, i get a real hot smell form the gear box.
i know the bulb is working as i have tested it.
what i would like to know is...
How easy is it to get the sensor out?
was there any loss of fluid?
Can you test the sensor?
and at what temp does the light come on?
hope some one can help.
Thanks in advance.

The sensor was easy enough to get out, it screws in the the pipework, and yes there was some fluid loss, but not a great deal, and i was able to stop it by wrapping a rag around the pipe after removing the censor, whilst i cleaned it up.
Not sure if it can be tested or at what temperature it should come on sorry.
Good luck

Found it, part number prc 7984.
you learn something new every day.
does it put the same light on when it gets to hot?
i dont know if my sensors are working , as the light has never come on , but the gear box does get very hot.
