depends if you mean Disco 1 2.0 Mpi, 3.5V8 carb, 3.5 V8 EFi, 3.9 V8 EFi, or Disco 2 4.0 V8 EFi, 4.4 V8 EFi, (may be bigger) or Disco 3 (dont know what engines they have)

well, i would steer clear of the 2.0 Mpi, they suffer from headgasket failure and then if this goes untreated then knock the bottom ends out (same fault as the K series rovers and freelanders have)

and the V8 are all good, they use more fuel than diesels but this is to be expected, the EFi suffer from electrical problems and the Carb suffers from wear and seal fatigue from age, but all in all they are reliable as a landrover can be

Any older vehicle will have wear in components. Finding a good one is dependant on your ability to spot the signs of wear.

However, most of the main components are easy to change and not impossible for the DIY mechanic.

In my opinion, the fewer electronics there are, the easier it is to repair but then you suffer from more age related problems.

To put it into perspective, here are some ideas on diy fix times for some things:

All motors are different, but I have a 1996 Disco ES V8 3.9 on LPG.  I've had it just over a year and covered 20,000 miles in that time (I have a 500 mile trip this weekend).  Part from normal service items, and one leaking fuel pipe, it has run faultlessly.  Not bad at all for a 12 year old motor, and I'm not selling it any time soon......
