If you suspect diff then changing oil is a good place to start, certainly the bits that might come out will tell you what is or isn't wrong.
You can get an oil syringe from Machine Mart, but to be honest I have not found them to be very good. I use an adapted house plant sprayer. Get one that you can pump up and pressuise, cut off the nozzle and use a jubliee clip to put a length of tube on the end. Fill with oil, pump up, pull trigger and away you got. Additionally they often have graduations on the side so you can measure just the right amount of oil.
However, the noise may not be the diff, so check the prop shafts and UJs while you are under there. Also try moving the props up and down at the diff ends to see if there is any excessive play in the pinion bearings.

:Dhi there gamekeeperjames
i bought one of the 500ml bottles of ep 80/90 when empty just refill from a larger container and as they have a pull out spout you can just put it in the filler plug hole pointing downwards and sqeeze , repeat as needed

I just use an old washing up bottle with a short length of hose pushed on the nozzle to extend it. Not the quickest method, but it works well enough considering it not needed very often.
If I have a lot to do then there is also a pump similar to this at home, fitted with a long length of pipe so that it can be operated by the side of the vehicle to fill up items like the transpher box under the vehicle.

apart from needing another pair of hands to be operated, it also needs cleaning out throughly before it can be used for another fluid, where as with old bottles I just have one for each fluid.
