A 40ft artic slid off the road into a ditch outside work today.
Luckily the axle ground out, or it would have gone all the way into the ditch & fallen over.

"Brown trouser moment for the wagon driver"
I offered my services as an anchor at the front with the County 1174 tractor that was in the yard, along with another passing Case tractor.
A crane was on the way to lift the rear of the trailer back onto the road.

County 1174 at front & Case behind.
Unfortunately I got called away with the County to rescue a bogged down tractor of our own, so didn't actually get involved with or see the recovery.

How do you slide something like that, on what looks like a slow straight road, at this time of year?
-
Looking at it I would wonder if he was trying to pull over to allow oncoming traffic through but didn't realise how steep the edge of the tarmac was?
-
been there done that  you just pull over a teeny bit to let traffic by and find the edge of the tarmac  luckily i got out of it though

The roads round there were never designed for such large heavy vehicles & are bearly wide enough for two artics to pass each other. I think he moved over to allow another artic to pass going the other way.
It's chaos at times with the amount of artics coming & going, all trying to access the distribution depots for the farm produce companies.
The incident happened HERE (http://www.bdcc.co.uk/XMarksTheSpot.htm?g=SD4290820087&t=SD4290820087) & the artics are going to the distribution depot HERE (http://www.bdcc.co.uk/XMarksTheSpot.htm?g=SD4257020306&t=SD4257020306). All the artics have to come in via the small village of Tarleton HERE (http://www.bdcc.co.uk/XMarksTheSpot.htm?g=SD4514920620&t=SD4514920620), which really hacks off the residents.

a friend of mine got pics on her camera of the recovery (using a telehandler and a big recovery truck) so i'll get those up soon if i can
