Title: Just got myself a 90, and now I need your help
Post by: craigderby on September 08, 2008, 20:36:24: Hi guys.
I've been out and bought a 90 tonight. It's got Range Rover 3 spoke style alloys on it. Am I right in thinking I can put 235/85x16 tyres on it, and it'll be fine on stock supension?

they are well good.

You can fit 255 85 16's ok.

The wheel arches on a defender are a fair bit bigger than those of either a range rover or discovery.

The 3 spoke alloys are 7" wide so you could fit a wider tyre than a 235 on the if you wanted such as a 265/75R16 which are just as common and are also a factory fitted size. If you do fit bigger tyres then check the steering stops are set correctly, other wise the bigger tyres may rub on the radius arms.

Post by: V8MoneyPit on September 16, 2008, 21:46:38: The 265's will fill the arches really well on those wheels. As said before, check tyre clearance to the radius arms at full lock. Mine didn't need adjusting, but some do.

One of the tyres catches, but only very slightly when on full lock. How do I adjust the steering stops?

The lock stops are on the front inside of each hub. They are just big bolts with a lock nut on them. They simply hit the swivel sphere flange to restrict lock. Undo the relevant one a little and lock the nut off.

Post by: Range Rover Blues on September 17, 2008, 23:16:24: Looks heaps better there mate, plus I'm always worried when I see alloys fitted to 200 TDi Defenders because tha axles (hubs) don't fit them properly :shock:
