-
Sorry to hear that, and reason for the lay-off..or is it 'downsizing'?
I assume you'll get a nice lump sum - not that it will last long
good luck finding something new.
-
Crikey there is a lot of people loosing their jobs at the moment... hope things work out for you.
-
Oh, that really sucks. Can they make you redundant without notice? Or is the company in difficulty?
In any case, hope you get sorted really soon and that your other half (better half?? :D) gets well soon too.
-
We were told this week that our company is closing down one of it's factorys as well. I feel for all the workers as I was down there last week helping out and they all seemed such a nice bunch.
I hope you find something soon.
Mark.

you have my sympathy its not nice especially if you enjoy the job, the last time i was made redundant we were all expecting it but it still hurts to be told "we dont need you anymore please go away" :(
take it as a positive that its through no fault of yours and get your cv up to date while you still remember your job role and start sending it out, if nothing else it takes your mind off whats happened

Hey Dreadnought
It may not be of any help but if you have been made redundant out of the blue without any consultation you could take them to tribunal. Id go and have a chat with the CAB or a seek legal advice
SWMBO says in normal cicumstances your entitled to 3 consultation periods.
1st Meeting they explain why the redundancy is happening and the circumstances,
2nd Meeting they have to offer you alternative vacancies within the company.
3rd meeting is advising those unfortunate enough that there being made redundant and the settlement payout.......
....she works for Croner Consulting they provide redundancy advice on procedure for companies and insure companies for when it all goes wrong....usually their fault for not following procedure. SWMBO also recomends the ACAS website......always worth a look
Never the less its a shock - hope you manage to sort something out soon.
-
they have closed the complete company due to voluntary insolvency due to lack of funds so all nearly 30 of us have been just layed of and have to claim of the goverment (oh whoopie!! :() been going since 1917 so bit emotional really :'(

Sorry to hear your news, I have been made redundant twice. In some respects it is easier the second time round but still felt the gut wrenching anger.
It may not be of any help but if you have been made redundant out of the blue without any consultation you could take them to tribunal. Id go and have a chat with the CAB or a seek legal advice
I went to the CAB about a financial matter and they told me to commit fraud by "bodging the figures"! At that point I terminated the conversation and walked out. Was not happy. The CAB are generally good but you do need to be a little careful.
Good luck with the job hunting and keep smiling. :D
