"If I was prime minister for a day the first thing I would do would be to close the border. Then we could work out how many people we've got here.

Totally agree I have no problem with people coming in legally however I have a big problem with illegals and I think if the number of illegals was reduced a lot the amount of crime would go down too...

Totally agree
Yes, but you'd be annoyed if you were on holiday at the time.

If they're here illegally they can't claim benefits??? So most of them work. Ok so it's cash in hand but they pay VAT on everything they buy so at least we're getting something back from them, Unlike all the longterm unemployed brits,
-
I disagree mate, if they are illegal they drive round in cars which are not insured etc & if they need A&E treatment, they get it & of course they are taking jobs away from other folks who have fallen into the benefit traps.
Let's not talk about the crime aspects :lipsrsealed:
-
So my wife has to go back to Czech Republic them????
I'll tell you what, she works harder than the work shy, thieving smack head scrots that I deal with daily. I say send them somewhere and bring in the hard working Europeans to do the jobs they won't!
-
Noel Edmonds seems to be in a combative mood of late - anyone else see his comments on TV Licensing? Have to say I agree that they shouldn't be allowed to intimidate and bully innocent people, as they frequently do to people who don't own a TV.
-
Like I said I don't mind anyone comming here if they do it properly .
It's the illegals that we need to sort out .
yes some do work cash in hand and thats illegal and they drive scrap without insurance and I have seen them working at cheshire oaks on a saturday if you call shop lifting in teams working .
I have a few polish friends at work who as you say boggert are very hard working and one philapino friend (whos married to my local pub landlords son) who also works with me doing all the IT work . All of these great people came here legal and have jumped through hoops to stay here .
Again it's the illegals I have a problem with , A friend of my wifes runs a small trucking company with her husband , He got stopped at the chanel tunnel and they found 7 people hiding in the trailer this has meant a £14,000 fine , to pay it they had to sell a truck and sack a driver and the people in the back will get a house and dole  . or get put in a centre then do a runner and never be seen again (except maybe on crime watch) not being able to work within the radar means they will do illegal stuff to survive.fact. and this illegal stuff no matter how petty is no good for the country.
-
This could spark quite a debate!
I have no problem with immigrants in this country, as the article says, they do many of the low paid menial jobs that the work shy lazy slobs that want to live on benefit for their entire life consider below them!!!!
Seriously, there are many immigrants that have come here, got themselves jobs, contribute to society etc. would many of you that say get them all out really want all the chinese, indian, italian, greek, turkish restaurants and take aways closed?? Yeh, thought not!
I do have a problem however with the many that come here, sign on for benefits like housing, child allowance etc with no intention of doing a legal days work while here, but will happily take on cash work! Remember that if they come from a European union member thay are allowed to travel into the UK without Visa and sign on! You are only illegal if you are from OUTSIDE the European union and come in without immigration knowing!
Back in the 70's there was a folk artist called Eric Bogle that wrote a song "I hate wogs" It was aimed at the UK population to try and show them how stupid they were being with their anti immigrant drivel, but he had to stop singing it because people couln't see the irony in it. He has since re written it for the Australian market as thats were he lives these days, and I'll quote a bit for you, see if you can see the irony???
And the local chip shop down the street is run by a bloody Greek
He's open sixteen hours a day and seven days a week
And every cent that you spend there on a pie or on dumsim
Helps to send back home to Greece for a <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) just like him!
Oh, I never eat there meself 'cause I couldn't touch Wog meat
I usually eat at the Chinese caf' that's just across the street!
I was queueing down at the Registry, a-pickin' up me dole
In front of me was a Yugoslav, in front of him a Pole
Behind me was a Eyetalian, behind him was a Turk
Those lazy migrant <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) do, they never bloody work!
But in spite of what the papers say, there's work for those who want to
The wife and twenty-seven kids is all the work I'm going to!
-
So my wife has to go back to Czech Republic them????
If she's an illegal immigrant YES, but I doubt she is
Some of the East Europeans are grafters, I'll give you that (I have a Polish couple renting my house @ the moment & they've been brilliant). But what is the ratio of people entering the UK, to that of those leaving  I will also wager that most of the people who leave the UK, leave because it isn't the same country is was 5-10 years ago.
The UK is full and our purse is empty, so what now =; 8-[

I'm sure people have seen this before:

Well that comment says it all... you obiously an expert on immigration and Europe
I wonder what would happen if the rest of Europe, Austraila and NZ sent all of their brits home... or is it because we are British we are better than every one else and get special treatment.
-
Most of the polish people at work are looking into moving to Denmark because the money is better..

Not an expert, but very good at quoting FACTS. I slso have worked in Europe (East & West) for the last 20 years, so I've gauged peoples thoughts in many countries. The common opinion is that the UK is "easy" whether illegal or not!
Oh', and Australia sent a Warship out to the last boat of immigrants that turned up & threatened to blow it out of the water! I can't see that sort of "ethos" on the Chunnel, can you
-
So if you are so well informed why were you so unsure of my wife's status in the UK???
You should know that Czech is part of the European union and she has as much right to be here as the British student who goes to work in Spain or France... Or you in Germany... lets see you facts!
But you know all about who has the right to be here and not... obviously not!
Any person from the European union has the right to live or work in the European union... not just the Brits.
-
"So if you are so well informed why were you so unsure of my wife's status in the UK???"
She could still be working in the UK illegally, EU Citizen or not

Yes, LEGALLY

I never said that, but if you say so, yes, I'd like to think I have a good comprehension of the law :D

Yes, LEGALLY :roll: (Though try & enrol your kid in a Spanish school, or yourself in a German hospital, you'll be shocked at how hard it is =;

Please explain how she could be working here illegally if she is from an EU country...
So she sneaked in on the back of a lorry, to earn 50p an hour from an unscrupulous gang master...
When she could have driven here and got a real job that earns £10 ph.... LOL she is Czech not stupid!

Does she have a work/residency Visa or a tourist one, surely you should know this??!! You should see the amount of Europeans that come to the UK on a Student Visa, then try & extend it, then when unsucsesful go "underground".
"So she sneaked in on the back of a lorry, to earn 50p an hour from an unscrupulous gang master..."
If she was registered she'd be able to claim the UK minimum wage
"When she could have driven here and got a real job that earns £10 ph.... LOL she is Czech not stupid!"
That would have been wiser, though make sure she has a European Driving Matrix too, otherwise again, she'd be driving illegally, therefore uninsured  ;)
-
LOL thats mint...
SHE DOES NOT NEED A VISA SHE IS PART OF THE EU!
Yes I shouted that!
All EU driving licences have the same standing, you do not need anything else... Polish, french, Czech, UK....
-
I SUGGEST YOU RE-READ (& UNDERSTAND) MY PREVIOUS POSTS ;) Shouted too ;)
I thought you worked for the Police

Give me a break  ... I do work for the police...
When was the last time you had to apply for any visa to visit any EU country, Work, tourist or residency... they do not even stamp you passport...
Its an open border policy there are no more border controls even the German Czech one have gone!
You said this...
Does she have a work/residency Visa or a tourist one, surely you should know this??!! You should see the amount of Europeans that come to the UK on a Student Visa, then try & extend it, then when unsucsesful go "underground".
And I understand by you saying this you are asking what sort of vise does she have?
Well the answer is simple She does not need one...
Therefore i deduce from you question you do not know thet she does not need one! (this is simple policing BTW)
Do you get where i'm going here?
I would now say that you do not know that you are talking about?
As for the "Driving matrix" not sure what that is... As I said all EU driving licences have the same status, its only the UK paper ones that are not valid in the EU.
So when I pull over a Polish driver and he shows me a valid Polish licence its a European one so its valid! Crikey they even look the same as ours and have that horrid blue start thing one them.

Please note Not starting anything just trying to stop all the shouting ;)
Taken from the UK immigration site -UK work permit and work visa.
I take it from this that anybody from CZ would not need a visa to enter the country but would need to register if they wanted to work at least for the first 12 months then they get an open ended permit..
Nationals from the following new member states; Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic who find a job in the United Kingdom are required to apply to register with the Home Office under the new 'Worker Registration Scheme' as soon as they find work.
Those registering will be provided with a worker's registration certificate. The workers registration certificate will be issued for 12 months. It confirms that they can work and reside in the United Kingdom while they are working in that job. If they change jobs before they have worked continuously for 12 months the certificate will lapse and they will have to renew their registration.
Employers will have to check that the worker has registered. It will be unlawful for them to employ a national of the new member states (who has not worked here legally for 12 months) if they are not registered for the job they are doing.
Once an individual has completed 12 months work they may apply for an EEA residence permit. We can assist with this. Just get in touch.
right lets get back to hating the french

Very interesting mate
"I would now say that you do not know that you are talking about?"
I often work with the British Liason Office (in Dusseldorf) and the MOD, a lot of the time we discuss European Access into & around the UK, Germany and the rest of the EU, there are so many rules & regulations which must be adhered to, it's quite often hard work (as is this thread!!) to see who is entitled to enter/work/study/marry/join the armed forces/claim/visit certain countries.
Feel free to PM me if you wife is concerned about her residency in the UK ;)
At the end of the day, I know what I know mate ;) But remember "Ignorance isn't bliss" [-X
For the benefit of Forum Harmony, I'll not carry on discussing this topic, as you obviously can't won't accept the FACTS

I just sick and tired of uneducated comments... the simple fact is if you do not understand do not comment...
My wife is a Czech National and has been running her own business in the UK for 6 years now, she earns more than me and works bloody hard.
The problem is when people post "Immigrant bashing posts" they are tarring every hard working immigrant, which can cause offence. not to mention a huge % of the UK population.
However they never see the bigger picture... how come it OK for us to go to Auzz and NZ for a better life but someone from the EU to come here to improve them selves is such a terrible thing.
-
Very interesting mate
Feel free to PM me if you wife is concerned about her residency in the UK ;)
You are kidding... have you not read anything that has been posted.....??
You do not know what the hell you are talking about why would I want any advice from you??
Read it for you self you have the internet at you fingers!

Hey, it's an emotional subject for lot's of people!
No hard feelings ;)
(BTW, check your wife's "visa"  )
-
Lee Celtic, I think you'll find that what you posted is for NEW people coming in! if you're here and from a EU member country already then you are fine.
-
Its is... you are right. No hard feelings but think about this...
It just bugs me, I watch my wife work hard all the time, not to mention running the local mother and toddlers group volunterally, she struggles to get any help from all the house wives who spend the long days at cofee mornings gossiping and making excuses why the are too busy to help out . Yet they want the benefit of the facilities when it suits them.
I've seen the bunch of Chavs abusing the Polish lady as she walks home from a hard day picking Collies in the fields, yet the job is just so beneth tham that they would prefer to claim the benefits.
Well if she said "Blow this for a game of poker" and went home, the farmer would struggle to get anyone to do the work, thus the price would go up or he would go bust.
There are 3 companies near me, who's success is down to the immigrant workers being on time, staying there, working hard and producing a quality product.
-
If someone is willing to work then great, I'm afraid to say that it's "us" Brit's who need a rocket up the jacksy
-

Too right, our biggest mistake is not allowing the Illegal immigrants to work... They should work, all the ones I have had dealings with want to work... they want to contribute to our countries success.

Perhaps National/Community Service :-k
Serve a few years, learn the language, pay some taxes, then be "free" to become a UK citizen and gain all the benifit's that entail's :)

The Germans have it mate :D
I don't want to stereotype but:
Clever = University, get educated.
Fit = Bundeswehr, serve the Army.
None of the above = Council/Environment , help keep the streets/countryside clean.
Like I said, I don't wish to stereotype (as there are many variants) but every person "serves" two years, one way or another :D

the same as the Czechs and a lot of Europe... look at how the economies of the most of the ex communist countries and Europe they are doing better than we are.

I agree about all the mother's being 'too busy' to volunteer, I was reading in a local parish newsletter about all the mother's being so upset about the volunteer Youth Leader leaving the role at the Village Hall, the fact that the Youth Leader indicated her wish to leave the role 12 months ago, and that the parish has been waiting for another volunteer to step forward notwithstanding, many of the mother's will now have to give up there part-time work as there's no Youth Club to look after their children.
So Children's Tax Credit aside, they were all so selfish that instead of volunteering, and perhaps sharing the position, they are now out of pocket and 'stuck' with their kids.
The local Scout Group manages to avoid such nonsense, as the parents have to undertake a CRB and agree to volunteer to assist the Scout Leaders a couple of evenings a term before they accept their children into the Group. The Parents rota goes up on the noticeboard a term in advance, and parents have the opportunity to choose, first come first served, which evenings they will be volunteering the next term.
On top of that they charge the parents £30 a term for each child attending Scouts.
Such a policy usually sorts out the lazy <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html), maybe your wife should introduce such a parents rota to the Mother & Toddler Group, to sort the wheat from the chavs.
Sorry, couldn't resist that.
-
well, I'm glad you guys have finished that.
Seriously, though, any more of that kinda shenanigans and we'll lock the topic and be having words in private. [-X

We had the same problem with the scouts in Llanberis
I was the only person from our village to help with the scouts the other guy was from 10 miles away between the two of us we ran it for two years but none of the other parents were interested . In fact they would complain if we were a few Min's late starting  as we were holding them up...
glorified babysitters . I will never do anything volentry for the village again I've tried and and had no backup at all sad but true.
we tried the parent rota thing, not one signed up and I am not the type to turn kids away because of money (I'd rather fund raise and give a kid with nothing a bit of fun )
But after 2 years of courses ,checks ,red tape and begging for support I can't be bothering again.

Having seen the way it ended, so do I!
Dang, you guys had me worried for a moment!
Apologies if it came across as heavy handed - seems you folk had it well in hand.

I don't know, what is the world coming to? I go away for a few days relaxing work, and all hell breaks loose! All because some TV bloke with a weirdy beard fires his mouth off!
Immigration. Wow, what a topic! I have to say that in some ways I agree with what Edmonds has to say, but being a complete cycnic, sorry realist, is he near to launching another TV series? I mean, come on, this is a guy who invented a large pink inflated thing, for petes sake!
We are all descendants of immigrants somewhere along the line. The term 'English' comes from Angles, who were a warlike tribe from, surprisingly, Germany. As were the Saxons.
If it hadn't have been for immigrants from all over Europe and other countries including the West Indies and Brazil, the RAF would have had a hard job to pull of the result they did in 1940, when our blond friends across the North Sea got a pushy.
I have issues with anyone who does illegal stuff, regardless of their country of origin.
It is interesting to note, that a lot of the economic migrants from Eastern Europe are now heading back, as they are finding that GB is not what it was cracked up to be.
Saying that, I am a firm believer in setting our house in order. We have enough lazy, scrounging reprobates of our own. Lets sort them out. Oh no, sorry we can't do that! We might upset someone!
One thing I did notice when I was working with the Border Agency, there are a lot of Brit ex-pats coming back from Europe, due to life becoming 'more difficult' for them, due to what could be seen as state sponsored racism, namely an increase in taxes, no access to health care and general obstruction to planning applications. Interesting!
It could be said by some, that the Brits/English are now paying for their deeds carried out in the past.
It always amuses me that we are a country who are very proud of our heritage, and our Britishness, yet our monarchy are German! I'm reminded of a bit in one of the episodes of the third Blackadder Series when Prince George is talking with Sir Talbot Buxomley. It sums up the monarchy quite well.
T: I care not a jot that you are the son of a certified sauerkraut-sucking
loon!
G: Ah, thank you, sir.
T: It minds not me that you dress like a mad parrot and talk like a plate of
beans negotiating their way out of a cow's digestive system. It is no
skin off my rosy nose that there are bits of lemon peel floating down the
Thames that would make better Regents than you.
G: Well, bravo!
T: The fact is, you *are* Regent...
G: Yes, I am...
T: ...appointed by God, and I shall stick by you forever, though infirmity
lay me waste and ill health curse my every waking moment. (falls into the
chair)
Personally, I blame the Pixies and their attitude towards the Goblins. Just because the Pixies have wings, they think they own the place! Kick them out, I say, and reclaim the toadstools for the Gnomes! As for the Trolls, Pah! Coming over here, living under our bridges and picking on the Billy Goats Gruff! Wasters!
If you are seriously that concerned, use your vote when it comes to election time! Don't let the Nu Labour gremlins get away with another term!
Have a nice day, y'all! I'm going to sleep now, so I can be up tonight, catching the bad guys. The Sun, it burns my eyes, I'm melting, MELTING! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
-
LSP, could you please stop stirring the excrements??? Tension is high enough as it is without your goblin bashing antics.
Seriously, though, I do take a limited amount of offence at Smudges comment about registering kids in a Spanish school. I haven't the faintest idea about the German health care system, and as such, I cannot comment, but as far as the Spanish educational system, I do have a small amount of knowledge.
Whereas finding a teaching position as a foreigner is quite difficult (only slightly more difficult that it would be for a spaniard) due to the nature of the tests (they involve quite a lot of local knowledge, i.e. local history, that could be difficult for, say, a maths specialist to know), registering a child in the Spanish educational system is quite straightforward, as long as you trouble yourself to learn the language, which tends to be the main reason for a lot of British families struggling to send their offspring to schools in Spain.
Incidentally, that seems to be the main reason why a lot of British expats have to lift camp and come back from Spain. At the risk of generalizing, there seems to be a certain type of expats who tend to gheto themselves in brit only pockets, and unfortunately, instead of blending in and learning the facts for themselves, they rely on other stablished parties who are not necessarily kosher.
In quite a lot of the cases where illegal building, lack of planning applications, dodgy dealings, [insert your crime of choice here] have been afflicted on british (or german) expats, the perpetrators/misinformers/persons of dubitable parentage have been Britons themselves, taking advantage of the lack of integration of their victims.
Oh, and I do agree with one of the comments in the post:
Let's go back to hating the french!!!!

He has a book coming out

I'm not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can trace my history as far back as records go to Scotland! Scottish born and bred, as were my Father and Mother, Grandparents, Great Grandparents etc etc etc, My family were Proscribed of Land, Title and Deed due to Lawlessness and general misbehaviour during the attempted English occupation of Scotland and we are on record as supporting the cause!!
And I'm sure a few of my scottish brethren can join me on this claim!
Having said that..........I am an immigrant to Wales

I am an immigrant to Wales
Me too

We are all descendants of immigrants somewhere along the line. The term 'English' comes from Angles, who were a warlike tribe from, surprisingly, Germany. As were the Saxons.

My most humble apologies to our celtic brethren! No offence was intended.
In theory, I'm not really English as my forebears were on the winning side at the Battle of Hastings, fighting for some chap called William, The 'Person Who Was The Offspring of Unmarried Parents'.
So, am I French by descent? Seeing as the Normans were resettled Vikings, I suppose I could claim Scandinavian heritage.
Blimey, this immigration stuff is so complicated!
Now pass me the garlic, I have some frogs legs and snail foie gras to stuff down mon neck, sil vous plait, plume de ma tante, l'ecole du fromage, maintenant!

Now I feel better seeing he has totally lost the plot!

I knew it! Nothing more than a bit of self publicity for the strangely facially haired, orb watching, crinkley bottomed TV B Lister!

I can't say I particularly like Mr Edmonds BUT he does do a lot of good!
The "Noels Christmas presents" year on year helping out people that have very little, and lataly he's started "Noels HQ"
Now I know that its always "Noels" but at least he's doing some good!
"Through amazing donations from British companies, Noel will endeavour to give Troop Aid a huge helping hand by offering supplies, storage space and accommodation for families visiting their loved ones in hospital. There may also be a surprise in store to reward Matt himself for his astounding bravery."
and lots of other stuff can be read about here http://sky1.sky.com/noels-hq
