Title: Does anyone know anything about Ford engines????
Post by: blueboar on September 15, 2008, 20:09:18
Hello

I own a Landrover Series 2a with a ford V6 Capri 3.0litre Essex engine (so I have been told about the engine)

I was told that the engine number is on a flat piece of metal behind the manifold. See the 2 pictures, also on the same piece of metal there were 3 letters HYF. But according to Ford technical Dept the number should be 4 - digits and 2 letters!

Are the pictures my engine number?????? If not, Where Is it???

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! [-o< [-o< [-o<

Thank you

bb

Already did that thanks. They said

"Hi bb,

HYF is the correct engine code for a 3,0 litre V6 138hp (Model EV30H) as fitted to the Capri (HYB would have been from a Granada, but the engines are pretty much identical)

The location is the correct location for the engine number, it has been stamped pretty crudely, but it seems to read PU81857, which would make it production month JUNE 1974."

That is the right place but looks a bit dodge ???
Prob rebuilt or "borrowed" at some stage of its life.
They are good engines but dont like revving too high.
You can still get uprated cams etc and make them really go for sencible brass

The engine number should have matched the chassi snumber of the original installed vehicle.  IIRC you should be able to tell the year/month then the start of the chassis number, but I'll check a few manuals I have when I've time.
