Title: What engine oil 300TDI
Post by: bambamjj on September 18, 2008, 07:00:03
Need to do an oil change tonight as the fuel pump had gone and looks like diesel was topping up the engine oil  [-o<

What grade do you all use/recommend for a 120K 300 tdi.

Your help once again is appreciated.

I would suggest 15/40.

New engine oil spec is 5/30 fully or semi-synthetic. After 120k miles it would be wise to use something thicker, but still within the recommended range. 15/40 is a very good average spec oil for turbo diesel engines. If you have a high-miler and put 5/30 in, then engine noise might make you panic a bit :)

I use Lucas oils 10/40 with their oil stabiliser, or a 15/40 in summer.
