Hi everyone.
I want to put vented discs on the front of my 300 D1 and have been told that the RRC front axle is a straight swap.
Is this true will it fit and is it worth the hassel? :-k
Many thanks.

If there aren't any inherent problems with the axle itself it's a hell of a lot of work just to get vented disks.
Easier to just get vented disk calipers and fit those in place of your original calipers. I believe you will need to re-plumb the brake pipes though - vented calipers are twin pipe (assuming your original ones are single pipe) - thats where the hassle is!

I'd echo the above.
Discs and calipers, brand new, probably wont run to more than £150 and second hand calipers would make that much cheaper.
Having swapped an axle myself I would sooner do it the easy way. And knowing your own axle is a good one is nice also.
All that said, if you've got a decent workshop, ramp and helpers and the axle is known good and cheap then go for it.
Stu.

Thanks guys but dont u have to change the stub axle and half shafts?
-
Unsure.... but dont think so...
-
Nope, only thing you change is the disk, the caliper and the pipework - I looked at doing this myself but it looked like too much messing about to adapt to the two pipe caliper.
If it's really an issue why not look at uprated standard grooved/slotted disks and performance pads rather than the extra work upgrading to vented disks?

Very little gain with vented disc off-road (IHMO). The 'vents' get blocked with mud very quickly and negate any gain that there may have been. For a road only vehicle then go for it.
The EBC 'Green stuff' pads are also very good as an upgrade. Also look at stainless braided hoses, this will improve brake efficiency as the hoses don't ballon out under hard braking.

Thats great thanks.
The trouble is i tend get though discs a little to often. On me 3rd set already and i've only had it 2 years!

FIT A VENTED DISK KIT!
this will have the spacers for the callipers plus a new shiney pair of vented disks. RRC have a different plumbing set up to Disco, ie they are dual circuit callipers, the non-vented Disco IIRC are single circuit with or without ABS.

Didn't know u could get them. Do u know where i can get a set?
Thanks TEMP.
