I am in need of technical help...
Today I've started doing my headlight swap from 200 to 300 series lights, got everything ready old lights out new lights cleaned and ready to install and fitted a brand new set of 100/90 headlight bulbs (Very bright!!!) I've also cleaned the indicators up and whilst I was doing this I noticed that the 300 indicators have a different plug for them, so rather than chopping my wiring I have modified the indicator bulb mount very slightly...basically I've cut a notch out of the smaller slot about 2mm wider which enabled me to use the existing bulb holder and that bit is now up and running.
But my question is how on earth do I tackle the headlights, how do I get them lined up right and get the holes for the fixings done properly?
If anyone has a template for it could I have it please as I am now stuck without the front end!
I am hoping to have the conversion done by the end of this afternoon...

Anybody???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the question i have to ask is why are you using 100/90 bulbs, THEY'RE NOT FOR ROAD USE.

why are you using 100/90 bulbs
Short answer: have you ever tried driving a 200TDi down a country with standard bulbs?
As it goes, the headlights have gone through 3 MOT's without being picked up, I've also been stopped by the police and they didn't have a problem with them either. So if the law is happy...so am I!

do you do 80,000 miles a year? most of them at night. having illegal bulbs is not the answer, as you have seen on the other thread about changing the wiring and you are fitting 300 lamps there will be no need for 100/90w blubs.

I've not been on the road a year yet, I got my licence in February since then I have covered 14,000 miles, owned 3 cars and had one on lease for 2 months.
These miles were gained both through personal circumstances as well as work related as I was a delivery driver and it was not uncommes for me to rack up 100-150 miles in the course of the night (5 hour shifts)

so you should know what its like to have someone with the fullbeams on coming at you. fullbeams are only 60/55w so why do you need 100/90?

Thankyou for the advice but I have had my eyes tested...and by the way I use SpecSavers.

TBH the easiest answer would be to get the 300 headlight panels, either new or S?H and use them as templates or fit them. You might be able to get a mate to draw round theirs and make you a pettern.
As for 100/80s, well unless your wiring is really mint then the voltage drop across the connectors will put paid to most of the gain in light output, plus running at a lower voltage will shorten their life. The best uprgrade for standard lamps might be ro fit relays directly behind the lamp unit. I found about 1 volt drop between the battery and the dipped beam plug on my lights.

Try this.

Ive done it on my Disco and put 100/90 bulbs in mine. I have had no probs. The only addition to the wiring was a better Earth from the Bulb Connector to the Battery Earth .I have used the old Headlight/Indicator suuround but cut it out to reHouse the new bigger lights. I purchased the Adjuster kit and made the holes to fit?just be careful because you have to cut out a larger hole for the Headlights to fit and leaves just enough space to locate the adjusters. I suggest marking the holes for the adjusters first. Nige. ps the bulbs are still not that bright i have just bought a pair of flashy zenon neony bulbs and kit from e bay.
