These things come as a complete surprise to me. Never seen anything like them before  The archive film at the bottom of the page is amazing

Saw some american on a programme with a similar design of personal water transport, a couple of years ago, not sure which programme (could have been top gear), but I think the american was claiming it as a first, like they always do.

What an amazing machine. I wonder how it would cope with a heavy sea? :?

I saw a a TV program that a friend had recorded when i was working in Germany (about 10 year ago), they where looking at battleships with speed of 200+mph amazing things. apparently able to cope up to a 3 meter waves(the best hieght to maximize ground effect is 3 above water) which is not massive. This is the first time I've seen some one use one over land or ice.

I've seen some footage of the huge one of them, amazing piece of kit. Designed during the cold war, the American spy satelites captured photos on that in the 60's and it sent them into turmoil trying to find out more about it.

If you have a scan around the Caspian coast on Google earth, you can clearly see where that monster has been parked up. Whatta piece o' kit that was!
if I get the cance later, I'll try and find it again!
<edit> Found one on GE at : 42.881667, 47.656667
Not the biggy I'd found on a previous search. But big enough!

wow
how 'on earth' did you find that?
also theres another one to the side of it on what looks like an airfield.
whilst on there I had a look at our ports - amzing to see in the shallow waters in the port areas what look like sunk boats etc..

Looks to me like there are lots of 'landing' sites along that stretch of caost..... be interesting to know what was really going on!!!

IIRC The Russians had a master plan to "sneak" up on the americans using these behemoths (loverly word behemoth!) across the small seas between Russia & Alaska etc... they should have bought a Land Rover instead... saved all them rubles!
