Title: snorkel with cone kn filter
Post by: mentalmoshio sophs V8i on September 27, 2008, 14:46:16
im just using mine as a cold air pipe at the moment . cause there is no room for a 300 airbox any where , so the plan is to fit the filter at the top of the snorkel in a replacement air scoop box roughly 14by 7 inchs big above the light bar

good idea or bad

K&N filters aren't as good as they lead you to believe.

Have a read of this before you possibly damage your engine -

Makes interesting reading Les. I came across that thread on LR4x4 a while ago and decided not to change to a K&N element in my 200Tdi airbox.

Looking at the general prices for performance elements, about £40 for a piper-cross or a K&N, it seems like a lot of dosh when a standard filter is less than a fiver. Is the assertion that the standard item allows more than enough flow for most engines correct? The same as most Tdi drivers, I would welcome a few extra ponies when on the motorway, aside from fuel pump mods and taking all the bolt on tat off my truck, where can the best increases be found?

I plan to remove my viscous fan soon as a bit of an experiment in fuel economy/power measuring - anything else you would recommend or is is it all just not worth the time/money?

Raising the fuelling by tweaking the injector pump is good, but I believe this only improves low down grunt (not sure though).
Bigger intercooler is another popular performance improvement, increasing turbo boost, fitting an overdrive, larger tyres.
Not sure if you can increase the gearing on a Disco.

How do you up the boost on a 200 TD?

I was planning on sticking a TD5 intercooler on my disco when I had it- read somewhere there is a sign ificant improvement by doing so.
