I have for some time had occasional poor running, mostly that the engine would drop to tickover for about 30 seconds or so then run fine for hours. I eventually traced the problem to a small leak on the engine side of the fuel separator - it was letting air in rather than much fuel out. I don;t think it had seen any attention since it left the factory consequently I effectively destroyed it in taking it off. I have now bypassed it altogether and this has solved the symptoms - my only question is does anybody think it is worth fitting a new one or should I just change the filter more often ?

do you mean the sedementor under the chassis by the drivers rear wheel???
i would leave it as a bypass pipe and change the fuel filter every 5000 miles

Leave it bypassed, mine has been for years and I have had no trouble

Mines Bypassed too after the metal on the top rusted through letting in air , won't be putting it back on ;)
It's been bypassed for two years ish...

Some 300 TDIs had no sedimenter, later filters have more space to collect water and crud so fit one of them, buy quality though, not halfrauds, I had trouble with them.
Incidentaly, later 300 TDis found the sedimenter being re introduced ;)

Thanks guys I think that’s a definite, don't bother to replace ;)
