I'm amazed a Tazer did anything to a sheep. I've seen them hit by cars, lie there stunned, then get up, bleat a bit and wander off!

The point the TV reporters didn't mention is that the bit of duel carrageway that was being blocked is right outside the biggest A&E in the area .

Imagine the press if the bobbies let the sheep do it's own thing and some poor soul died in the back of an ambulance stuck in traffic

Plus it was a Ram not just a sheep . And they get nasty when cornered or scared [-X

A ram can be a dangerous beast and had to be dealt with immediately before it tried to raid somewhere :police:

Well Im sorry but the copper in question needs to be charged with animal cruelty. Is a sheep that dangerous...... I didnt know that they are considered a danger to society at large.....

From the veiwpoint of being a sheep owner...and having worked with or owned just about everything haired, furred or feathered, from a legal standpoint, the policeman in question was completely out of order.

According to current legislation and DEFRA guidelines, the use of electronic devices against sheep is almost completely prohibited - pretty much the only exemption being electric fences.

Irrespective of whether the animal was a ram or a ewe (as ewes can be worse than rams if trying to protect lambs) I personally can't see the use of a tazer being either legal or justified...and as for the previous quip about it holding up traffic on a main route to an A&E....so what?!  As surprising as it may seem, most emergency services do have contingency plans and alternative routes. Would the same sentiment be applied if it was a wagon that had shed it's load and blocked a carriageway?...should we tazer the driver for being irresponsible?
We are constantly reminded of the 'reasonable force' policy when it comes to dealing with criminals...perhaps the terrorist threat of this particular woolyback was just too great or just possibly it was an over zealous copper abusing his position, and just wondering what the outcome would be of tazering a sheep....the sack I hope.
