I have a leak from the timing case on my 200tdi defender. Its coming out the hole in the bottom that the wading plug fits into.
before I take a day off work to sort this, Do I need to get hold of any specail tools. I have a torque wrench. How easy are the oil seals to get out.
If I'm correct it could only be form one of 2 oil seals, the crank or the cam?
I want to sort this soon however I have a 700 mile trip planned and not sure if the oil getting on the timing belt could damage the belt?
Its leaks about 1L of oil per 1000 miles
Thanks
Matt

I would change the timing belt as if it got any oil on it there is a very likely possibility that it will skip teeth. As for tools you may need a viscous fan spanner so you can get the fan cowling off, and timing pins or drill bits to do the timing belt.

you may need a crank puller. i think the drill bit is 9mm for the pump timing if you put a wood screw in to the old seal you can pull it out whithout doing any damage to the casing. i did the same thing last weekend it took just over half a day but now my timing is spot on. good luck

I have a timing Pin for the Pump but will need to get a puller. I was thinking 4hrs to do the job but any job I do on my landy is never as easy as it should be.
