Title: Brake lights not working
Post by: DCR on October 17, 2008, 01:41:41
Hi does any body have any experience with faulty brake lights.I have fitted new bulbs and the side lights work, but still no brake lights.Could it be a switch.
The problem is on a 95 disco 300tdi.

Thank you.

Buy a circuit tester or multimeter and check you've got current to the brake lights, if not, fuse then switch. I would check the fuse before you bother buyng a tester though, 2 minute job.

Ht hanks every body for the advice.I reckon the fault is something to do with the tow light connector AND/OR duff bulbs.I had checked every thing with my tester and changed bulbs.Every thing worked but the brake lights.I soaked the tow bar electric socket with WD 40 and this morning one light worked. So I plugged the light board in and they all worked. So I will buy a new socket and replace the defective new bulb.Hopefully It will be OK

All the best every body.

In the drivers rear corner behind the trim is a multiplug which is the same as a tow bar socket. Disconnect it, if the lights then work you'll know its the towbar wiring.

Intersting, my sister's RRC softie (300 series) had the brake light switch burn out, too much towing perhaps.  Anyhoo, it caused a fault on the ABS too :-k
