Has anybody actually replaced a rear tub panel and welded it themselves?
If so what did you use to weld it, was it successful and did it look ok?
Can i use a small mig to do it?
Spot welder?
TIG?
Havnt done a search on here but trawling through the tinternet does not come up with the answer!!!
Or a link to another site if available. Also anyone tried out the new cheap TIG MMA welders available?
How do Landrover weld the panels in the tub on originally?
If youve done this and have pics i would be very gratefull to see them, and no i dont want to pop rivet it on either.

What panel do you mean? 1st of all the tub is aluminium, so its specialist welding really?
Pics??

nearside rear wing panel, which is welded to the inner seat box and the 2 rear panels which are welded in the door frame.

You can MIG aluminium with the correct wire, but it's not great. TIG welding is the way to go. But TIG welding sheet aluminium is not easy if you've not done it before! Trust me, I've just been TIG welding rivet holes in door skins

You can buy brazing kits for aluminium.

i am sure they are spot welded together but were you would get a spot welder whith arms that long i dont know. i have tried welding aly before its not easy. in my opinion you will end up whith holes everywere rather than welds as the ally is so thin on the panles. bud i know i have seen rivits on the sides of the 110 country so in some situasions even land rover wont atempt welding the stuff

Conversly the roof panel on the LSE is two standard roofs cut in half and welded together, I suspect the choice to use rivets has as much to do with the pennies as the process.

Thanks for the input guys.
Looks like Steve is the expert
OK you've talked your self into it, seeing as you ain't doin too much at the moment
Been keeping an eye on the "reaper" and its certainly interesting viewing, by the way what happened to the August deadline?
Next option is another tub i suppose.
