Title: DVLA sent tax disk to previous owner?
Post by: Tommo on October 22, 2008, 21:59:43
Bough a VW polo 2 weeks ago, Applyed online for a tax disc a few days after. Anyway the log book came a few days ago but still no sign of the tax disc?

Im thinking they have processed the tax disc application before the log book and sent the disc to the previous keeper.

What to do? I know I can apply for a duplicate for a fee but is there anything else?

And how come this has never happened to me before? I have bought a few vehicles and taxed them online straight after the purchase and all has been well, I figured they must have some sort of system to prevent this?

Cheers in advance

You need to go to the local DVLA office and fill in some forms and pay £7 for another. This is yours untill they get everything sorted.

Guess how I know  Not they are going to take the last owner to court for not sending the log book off. As it was 9 months ago when I got the car. BTW if you make the form as "lost in the post" its free, but as it was sent to the last owner then you still have to pay!

If the tax reminder is not in your name then you cannot use it, and it says as much on the reminder.

You need to fill in a form and take your part of the old V5C to a Post Office.

Put it down to experience.  :?

or why not got to the last owner and ask if they have got the tax for it and if they do then take it as it is clearly yours as you paid for it and it will show up on your bank statement but ring dvla and have a word with them or the last owner can send the tax back and get a refund

Yeah this is the thing see, I bought it off a motor trader, and I dont have the details of the last registered keeper.

Think its time to get my £7 out.
