Yeah, it's odd isn't it. I just read this before I got to your thread. Of course the OPer has been very cleaver posting it in the "for sale" thread where we cannot reply.
Based on what he has wrote it does sound like a good truck at a great price. Just one year ago I paid a lot more for something similar with more miles. He says no takers, but there might have been a few lookers who did not agree with the excellent condition statement. I was on autotrader yesterday (but I'm not looking fr a new car) and one advert said "excellent condition, needs some welding" which made me chuckle!!
I would like the moderators to move it in the disco section so we can reply and find out more

Glad nobody bought it if that's the response.

The name says it all.

To move it would only prolong the agony - having seen that it was posted at 0.55 on Friday night / Saturday morning, I imagine that it may be the beer goggles doing the talking and am prepared to forgive and forget...
However... Lozzie...
It's simple economics...
Doesn't matter how good the car is (or you think it is...), when times are tight, the potential buyers fade away and prices drop.
Look at Brightwells (the auction house) who had perfectly good N & P reg Disco's going through last week for around £800... a few weeks ago when I checked there were a few that only hit £350/400!
Now that is virtually free - whip out the engine, T-Box and axles plus all the switches your heart desires, then weigh the rest!
So... why the insult?
-
yes we would know a bargain when we saw it and i,m sure if money was not as tight as it is then somebody would buy it, but speaking personally i,m looking for a small car thats going to do 45mpg day after day and save me money not a V8 that i need an overdraft to fill up the tank with
-
and besides you dont have toadvertise on here where its free do you?

Had a quick look at his recent posts and it looks like he tried to sell it on the 4th of September for £2195. He then tried to sell it on the 24th for £1800. On the 16th of October he posted this http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,64883.msg554706.html#msg554706
Maybe the 'NO OFFERS' put us off
-
I'm sorry, but was someone off here required to buy it???? I think not!!
I think thats exceptionally rude and uncalled for.
-
Instead of moving it to the Disco forum, we've quarantined the thread instead. All it was going to do was stir up bad feeling.
Maybe that was the intention of the post, I dunno.
Either way, it's gone now. .......which can only be a good thing.

At the moment the 4x4 market is sinking faster than the titanic, if you WANT a 4x4 its a buyers market out there - if you NEED a 4x4 then price doesnt matter.
As pointed out if it was a diesel then the price was fair - but for a NON lpg V8 then its hopeful in the current market.
Isnt this the guy that also puts 1 word 'for sale' ads up? - then wont explain?
perhaps he brought it at a sensible price - then hoped to make a killing on a 4x4 site?
If he thinks hes getting a bad deal - tell him to ask round dealers - see what they would offer him for it - and what its worth in the current market....
-
As someone who works in a car dealership and deals with part exchange appraisals all the time i can safely say i wouldnt give more than £500 for one, simple because its not a diesel and not lpg.
Diesels we offer about £650 for on about that age and also about the same for a v8 lpg.
But its not just discoveries, i was just offered yesterday a P38 4.6 with all the extras, new engine 4000 miles ago and with a certified LPG kit for £2000 - and its completely mint!!!

The talk of a buyer's market doesn't entirely seem to be holding true, at least from what I have witnessed in the past week. All I can see for sale are 300 Series motors advertised for 1.5k upwards, and the odd 200 Series for around the 1k figure. There also seems to be a massive drop in the number of Discoveries up for sale as well, presumably because people are holding onto them instead now.
-
I suspect the Disco 1 market will level off - they aren't affected by the road tax hikes and they are popular off-road toys. Certainly around here you can pick up a good Disco for a lot less than a mouldy Defender, and spending the difference on the Disco will get you an incredibly capable machine that can also be used as a second family car.

Must be a a diesel one? I can get 18-19 mpg out of my 80 series, even with the 35"s fitted.
