Post by: beast5680 on October 25, 2008, 12:15:05
my daughter has a samsung j700 and has somehow managed to turn on the phone lock  is there a default lock number for a samsung as she swears blind she has not entered one? my nokia just has 0000 as the default until you set it but the samsung wont accept this.
the manual is no use as it just says enter the code you put in

there is no code for anything listed in the manual, when you turn on the phone it says on the screen "Phone Lock" and has a box underneath to enter a 4-8 digit code, i,ve tried the obvious like 1234 and 0000 and 5555 but to no joy  i,ve a trip into town later might run into the phone shop and see what they suggest, i dont know if its a pin code you can change or whether the phone has decided to lock itself?

Get the PIN number wrong too many times, and the phone will be properly locked out requiring a PUK code to unlock.  This can be a good thing (if you've forgotten your pin) as your network operator can provide this code.

Do you still have the box and packaging that came with the phone? In most cases there is a piece of paper or label with the IMEI number and the handset PINs on.

Did the SIM come with the phone or have you bought the phone and put an old SIM in it? In either case read the message on the screen carefully and make sure you enter the number that it asks for - Usually the SIM card PIN or the Phones PIN1 or PIN2.

Good luck!

Alaric.

well turns out according to the guy in the shop that the only way the phone lock can be enabled is by the user :-k daughter denies all knowledge  and the sim is blocked due to my frequent attempts to unlock it  so now she owes me a tenner for getting the shop to unlock it and we binned the sim and put a new one in

I have only just read this, but I think this works,

When Sim Card Removed - Switch on Phone

Next type *2767*2878#

This should reset your codes to 000000000

The code you need could well be PIN1 or PIN2 as stated.

The thing I found when I secured my phone is that the defaults are set by operator i.e the Mobile Company Orange etc
  not the manufacturer

So google for the PIN1 and the operator (and poss mobile make/model) and you shouldget that number it was a 6 didgit one on my nokia from memory.
