Mine had that too but it turned out to be slack in the joint at the bottom of the streering column..

I'd check that first as they are only £7 to replace :D

I renewed the steering bars and joints ages ago and changed the panhard rod bushes and bolts  all made
a bit of difference.
It must be getting worse cause when the wife drives she moans
that the disco aint going where she points it ....... what does she know its a landy it does what it wants.

To adjust steering box look at the top. There is a nut with a screw head in the middle. Release the nut a litte and turn the screw clockwise 1/8 a turn and retighten nut. Check steering free play :)

I only do 1/8 at a time because it is 'a bad thing' if you have it tightened too much.

It is indeed a bad thing to over-do it on the adjustment - thats why I do it with the wheels off the ground and for every move of the screw I take the steering from lock to lock to ensure there are no tight spots throughout the travel of the box.  It may be that you get tight spots before you've got the play down to an acceptable level - if so then you may have to live with it - as long as its below the figure quoted to pas the MoT test then it'll be fine............

Another place to check for play is the panhard rod bushes, if these are shot then the whole axle can more side to side with the steering.
