Title: Vectra Help required - Bristol area
Post by: Thrasher on October 29, 2008, 21:41:50
Hi all,

A good friend of mine has a V6 Vectra manual. It's a P reg - original issue was difficult putting into 2nd and 3rd. Now apparently it won't go into gear. Would anyone in the know have the time to check it out for her and give her a proper diagnosis please?

PM me if you are willing to help  [-o<

Think the linkage is about £120 from vauxhall. But you can get the replacement bushes from good motors stores and overall the old one

I think its Hydraulic, if so first check the clutch fluid level and make sure the master cylinder isnt leaking, look for fluid on the top of the clutch pedal to, if thats ok, check the slave cylinder down near the gearbox, the rubbers could have deteriorated, I think vx do a kit for around £20.

I could have water in the fluid and need changing as its hydrophilic ( think thats the word ) takes moisture from the air.
Or it could just need bleeding.

Always check the cheapest first  :D

Problem is I'm in Northampton and the vehicle is near Bristol. Just needs someone to say if it's going to be expensive or not - to help her out. I'm sure it will become magically expensive if she takes it to a garge, you know what I mean.

Get her or a friend to do the checks, then it shouldnt take a garage an hours labour to sort it out.

The biggest expense in my post would be a new clutch master cylinder, the slave would be second most expensive, but its better than taking the box out for no reason  ;)
