Title: 300Tdi fuel pump, something missing?
Post by: marky on October 30, 2008, 22:28:46
Fuel pump has been tweeked, but without any noticable benefits. It looks like there is something missing on my fuel pump and there is a spare electrical plug not far away. Is there some sort of sensor missing?

Shouldn't make any difference.
What adjustments did you make to the injector pump?

Agreed it's the throttle position sensor for the EGR, you don't need it.  Also the anti-tanper plug looks like it's missing form the smoke screw.

The cog was turned clockwise 15 clicks and the cam was replaced so the larger part was facing the driver! if anything my truck is less keen in forth and fifth gear and on start off

The larger part should be facing to the front of the pump. Because that is where the pin is that alters the fuel which way did you turn the diaghram. It should be clock-wise about 45 degree's

might be the problem mark, i marked it all lastnight so its just a matter of turning it around if that is the case!

it should be facing front hats wher you will get most power from dont forget to adjust power screw on back of pump it only needs half a turn you might have to remove tamper coller on it but it makes a hell of difference

Thanks for the comments. I turned the diaphram 180 degreees and WOW  what a difference thats made, you could hear the tyres struggling for grip on a very slightly damp road , and I haven't touched the power screw yet! I'm not getting any smoke either, so could I turn that cog a few more clicks? And which screw is the POWER screw?

if you look on back of the pump you will see a threaded bar bolt with a pressed steel collar on it that is the one some times if you loosen the lock nut on it and screw the it inwards it might turn a little if not you will have to remove the power screw complete. its just like a normal bolt but once it is out you will see the difference you have to remove the coller but before you do measure the distance from the nut to the end of bolt so you have a standard point removal of the coller is by gently twisting it of and eventually it will go put it back in pump and turn in the bolt in about 1 or 2 turns the tick over might come up but first go out and drive to make its happy ie smoke not to bad etc then to reduce tick over if needed is with threaded bar on top you will see throttle gear on top rest on it in closed poisition     good luck
