Title: Heater blowers packed up?
Post by: Reggieroo on October 31, 2008, 09:59:17
The other day the heater started to play up & now doesn't work 99% of the time.

First off the blower started cutting out & coming on when I went round corners which seemed very odd, thinking about it, it must be just coincidence. Now it doesn't seem to work at all apart from the other morning when I started it up the blower was going, then I went to the garage & when I turned it back on nothing..................& nothing since.

Any ideas please as its bloody freezing...............   :(

The only thing I can think may have had a contributing factor was back in June. I went through some deep deep muddy water which came over the bonnet, in through the bonnet vents, through the dash & came out of the heater controls. Its all been working since though until the other day.

Mine in the Disco (same unit as RRC) packed up after deep wading. I had humidifier rather than a demister for a couple of weeks :)

I think that it is water in the motor that has rusted the bushes or brushes. When you turn mine on it just dims the panel lights and does nothing else. You should still get warm air onto windscreen or feet depending upon setting of controls it just won't be fan assisted.

In the Disco (so I have no reason to doubt it's no tthe same in the RR) the whole dash has to come out, this includes steering wheel and centre console. That coupled with the fact that I have an internal cage is the reason why the replacement heater unit has been on the workshop shelf for about a year. :D

You may be right Andy, I was thinking it might be that or a friend suggested it might be the resister pack. I'm not looking forward to stripping out the dash although the centre console is already out for the auto conversion I'm doing.

Mine did something similar which turned out to be the fan switch in the facia panel which had worn contacts.  The only difficulty was sourcing the replacement switch which eventually turned out to be superseded by a Disco one.

may be worth a look at it's a lot more accessible than the resistor pack which tend to either work or not rather than intermittently

Mine squeals, I was told that on the RRC you can get in with the straw on a can of WD40 by taking the grille off above the bonnet. Anyone know if this is true?

Don't know about that one, but worth a look though. Haven't got round to looking at mine yet as I'm still doing the auto box.

I had this problem, ok one min and not the next & then it finally packed up. All i done was changed the fuse and now it's working again. what i thought was strange, is that it worked on and off. I thought when a fuse is blown it's blown (end of).

Strange isn't it?

Mines been the same, since using it again after fitting my gearbox its been fine, but I've been reluctant about fitting the centre console back in just in case I have to remove it again. Maybe the fuse had a little corrosion on it making the connection not so good or something along those lines.
