Did Christian men and women really found this nation on Christian principles?

Originally it was colonised by animistic Britons, then conquered by marauding Saxons, who as far as I know weren't big on Christian principles.  The whole Christian thing swept in about AD600.

The reason the original writer apparently got this wrong is that it wasn't written about Britain.

In fact this was NOT written after hearing about any of the above issues, and it was NOT written by a Briton, and it was NOT published in a UK tabloid newspaper (who you'd have hoped would have sub-edited it a bit better).  It was published in an American newspaper (the Bartow Trader) in 2002 and written about the USA.  God bless the Internet.

The first unified, and independent, england was under Alfred the Great in the late 9th century I seem to recall, which is well within the Christian era.

Agreed, definitely American, but the sentiment within the text I also agree with  ;)

1) The premise mentioned in the above email is an urban myth.
2) We have a policy of no rude words and nothing offensive.
3) we close these threads as generally we don't like the direction people take them in.

.....and this one is no different, I'm afraid. Trust me, we've heard all the excuses  ;)

If you want to start discussions about the racial development of the Uk, we suggest that folk start with real data.

Before anyone talks about freedom of speech, the same polite suggestion applies there too  ;)
