Title: IP Masking
Post by: waveydavey on November 04, 2008, 12:02:49
Does anybody know how to mask an IP address?

Basically BBC iPlayer needs a UK IP address to download anything (IE Top Gear).
Can I mask my IP to a UK one if I am abroad?

i think you can use a uk proxy to bypass this

many moons ago you could have used the freeserve one (anyone remember this too?)

but i believe you can still get free proxies for stuff but i couldnt be sure..

have you tried to google the info?

Hello,

As the strpping lad says you might be able to do it via proxy, thats a site in the UK that connects to the BBC server on your behalf.  You can google one or http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?action=s&search.x=0&search.y=0&st=hide+ip (http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?action=s&search.x=0&search.y=0&st=hide+ip) has various SW aps that let you pick and choose.

That said id be very surprise if the BBC did not block access from most of the proxies as they are tying to protect the distribution rights and if it was that "easy" then everyone outside the UK would do it.

Be  a  bit wary wiht any stuff you find (although snapfiles is trustworthy) as this soft of application is a prime target to stick spy ware etc in,

aye treat with suspicion

its no different to when you go onto mtv.com or youtube.com and try to view official music videos only destined for certain continents (mainly US)

ip spoofing is something thats cropped up but this is a bit of a dark subject ( i know little about it)
